大津事件とは、 1891年（明治24年）5月11日 日本を訪問中のロシア帝国皇太子・ニコライ（後の皇帝ニコライ2世）が 滋賀県（現在は大津市）で警備にあたっていた警察官・津田三蔵に突然斬りつけられ負傷した事件 この事件の裁判によってまだ曖昧だった大日本帝国憲法の三権分立による司法の独立が示された また後日談で、児島惟謙が退職することになった弄花（ろうか）事件と車夫のその後の人生についても語っています。
