1:01Living with Spanish Mepisode 86, ask, I'm looking for, let's put together the last two Mepsodes. Imagine you're in a department store, and looking for something specific. The phrase you would use is, Buzco, I'm looking for, Buzco, then you just have to add the item and the color afterwards. Note that in Spanish, the color goes after the item, not before, like in English. Here's an example. In English, you would say, blue dress shirt, Spanish, that would be Camisa de Vestir Azul. So blue dress shirt, Camisa de Vestir Azul, notice Azul is the color, and then it goes to the end. One other detail is that, if the color ends in a vowel, then you actually have to pay attention to the gender of the item you're buying. If the item is masculine, and the color ends in a vowel, you have to change the last letter of that color to O.

2:03If the item is feminine, and the color ends in a vowel, then you have to change the last letter to A. Here are some examples. Black sportscoat. Buzco un saco negro. Notice how the color negro. We put an O on. Now, black tie. You would say, Buzco un acorbata negra. Since the tie is feminine, we add the letter A at the end of the color. So negra. One thing to note here is that items in Spanish don't always make sense. You notice that tie un acorbata is feminine. But vestido, a dress, is masculine. The only way around that is to memorize. There is actually no logic there. Also remember that if you're looking for items that come in pairs, like pairs of shoes or pairs of socks, that means they're plural. If the color ends in a vowel, you have to add an S to the end of the color.

3:04If the color ends in a consonant, you have to add an ES to the end of it. I know this all sounds very complicated, but trust me, just keep practicing and you'll understand. So here's some examples for some plural. If I said red, pair of shoes, you would say, par de zapatos rojos. If I said blue, pair of pants, you would say, par de pantalones azules. Now in this example, I'm going to give you the color and the item you're looking for. You need to do two things. The first is start with the phrase, busco un, which means I'm looking for a, and then add the item in Spanish that's indicated. So let's go back to one of the examples which is used earlier. If I say black, sport coat, you would say, busco un saco negro. If I say blue, pair of pants, you would say, busco un par de pantalones azules.
