在日本中部的福井縣坂井市的沿岸，有一個名為東尋坊的獨特斷崖，主要的地質為安山岩，長年累月的海蝕作用下，形成了鬼斧神工的懸崖峭壁，全世界有如此壯觀的地形只有三處，一個在北韓的金剛山，一個在挪威的西海岸，另一個就是福井縣的東尋坊斷崖，1968年，日本政府將此地列為國定自然風景區，屬於越前海岸國定公園的一部份，日落時分，整個斷崖沐浴在夕陽下，將東尋坊染成了金黃色，形成了絕美的日落海景，不過在美景的背後，卻有個形成對比的靈異傳說，因為這裡被稱之為，僅次於青木原樹海的自殺聖地
