カール・ヴィルヘルム・フォン・フンボルト（Friedrich Wilhelm Christian Karl Ferdinand Freiherr von Humboldt、1767年6月22日 – 1835年4月8日）は、ドイツの言語学者・政治家・貴族。フンボルト大学（第二次大戦後にベルリン大学を改称）の創設者。
同じ出来事でも後ろ向きにとらえるか、前に向きにとらえるかで、その意味は全く違ってくる。そのとらえ方は、やはり性格によるのではないか。出来事は中立だ。悲観的な人は常に悲観し、楽観的な人は常に楽観する。様々な公職を経験したフンボルトは、新しい仕事とその課題を面白がって解こうとしたように感じる。
