林 子平（はやし しへい、元文3年6月21日（1738年8月6日） – 寛政5年6月21日（1793年7月28日））は、江戸時代後期の経世論家。
林子平は禁固となって1年後に没した。死後10余年、北辺にロシアの影があり、当時の世人は奔放不羈の人・林子平の先見の明をようやく知った。板木とは木版印刷に使う版木のことである。海防の必要を説いた『開国兵談』は出版してくれるところがなく、林子平自らの手彫りであった。その板木が焼かれたのであるから、その心境は察するにあまりあるが、この歌には悲愴感はなく、ユーモアと皮肉が込められていて、親しみを感じる。
