0:00The US military confirms an Air Force refueling jet crashing in Iraq has killed four with two still unaccounted four. The suspect is dead and is shooting on the campus of Old Dominion University in Virginia. And Miami University falls to UMass. It was an undefeated season, but that streak is over. We'll now wait and see if they make the NCAA tournament. 5 on 5 in 5. It is Friday the 13th. Yeah, 2026. Yeah, we just had the realization in this moment, which means we get pizza for a long. That's right. I'm so glad I didn't bring lunch. I brought it to uncrustible. I still for my child. Kelly Ripon. Stephen Albrighten here with you on the podcast as you hear the delight in our faces that we get a free lunch here at work today, little tradition that we have on every Friday the 13th, which is very cool for us. But what's also, I mean, yes, it's going to get cold, but still at the same time, it's very unique what we're going to have the next four days with all seasons accounted for

1:00them. All seasons, but not in the order that you probably know them. We're going to get fall, spring, summer, winter. So we're jumping all over the place. And we went with fall today because of the wind. It's kind of giving that like spooky feel like October on Friday the 13th. Now that we have put all that together. And yes, we did just have Friday the 13th last month, but it was 28 days because of February. So we get it again. Yeah. Anyway. Maths, calendars, all that crazy stuff. Anyway, so today is fall. So it would be warmer, but windy. There's a wind advisory actually. We just heard that go off for gusts up to 50 miles per hour. And they were warning about potential power outages, debris on the roadways. It's trash day. It is for us. Watch those trash cans. Temperatures make it to around 60 though. And then we slowly, the die down, the winds after sunset. Battery day temperatures will be in the 30s, early 40s for St. Patrick's Day parade. It's a great parade. If you go down, it's a lot of candy. So bring like a bag or something.

2:01My kids, I think don't even know how much candy they have from last year that I get to throw away today. Now that I'm thinking about it. And then it'll go into the 50s for the afternoon, Sunday, sort of the 70s. It's going to be beautiful. This is our summer day as the cold front approaches. And it's a juicy rain, some thunder move in after midnight Sunday. Yes. Follow along here. So we have rain and thunder Sunday night. Temperatures will be near 60 by sunrise Monday. Temperatures will be in the 30s and the rain will turn to snow. Okay. I had to let that hang for a second. I just had to do it. Yeah. Should not have any impact on the road because it will have been 70 degrees the day before, but just a heads up. And then it stays cold for St. Patrick's Day. Lows in the morning or in the teens. I that feels so rude. But here we are. And then expected to be in the 20s. And so then things ramp back up into the 60s. So again, it doesn't last long. Jumping into our headlines very busy morning. It's what we do here at WLWT. First up, it is breaking news this morning. US Central Command confirming that four crew members have died after an Air Force refueling jet crashed in Western Iraq.

3:03Two others are missing rescue efforts are still underway. All of the names of the deceased have been withheld until families can be notified. We have video up online of a similar plane. This is a KC 135 huge jet refuel fighter jets in flight. Military is investigating what caused the crash, but says the jet was not shot down and was not hit by friendly fire. There were reports that another plane was involved in something and was able to land safely. So whether these jets came into contact, we don't know. There's a lot of questions surrounding this, but unfortunately, the terrible news that we were all hoping not to hear four service members have passed in this jet crash. Our next story is sticking with what's happening in the Middle East. He had all ties together here. President Trump overnight making threats to Iran's leaders. He wrote on social media, quote, watch what happens to these dangerous scumbags today. He added, quote, they've been killing innocent people for 47 years and now I as the 47th president of the United States and killing them.

4:03What a great honor it is to do so. Now this post comes as Iran launched another round of missile strikes at Israel overnight and Iran's new Supreme Leader made his first statement and appearance yesterday, saying the start, saying pardon me, the straight of Hormuz will remain closed to shipping and the Iranian military will continue targeting oil tankers. The International Energy Agency saying the war has led to the largest oil supply disruption in history and member nations are releasing a record 400 million barrels of oil from their reserves. It's just not clear how much this will help ease gas prices or how soon that release will happen next week could take about four months to deliver. The U.S. uses about 20 million barrels each day. Now for now, gas prices have kind of stayed steady. New numbers actually showing from triple A overnight, the average for Cincinnati's gallon down a few cents from yesterday, 339, average in Covington has stayed at 341. The highest price, again, this is an average, so you're going to see how you're going to see lower. This is in Dearborn County, Indiana at 346. Story number three and it's kind of a double because they did, they happened relatively close

5:04to each other. We'll start in Virginia. Classes are canceled this morning at Old Dominion University after a former Army National Guard member shot and killed one person hurting two others. The person who died was identified as Lieutenant Colonel Brandon Shaw. He was an ROTC student who returned to lead the university's program in 2022. As for the people who were hurt, one remains in the hospital in critical condition. The other was treated and released. The FBI says the 36 year old gunman had been on supervised release from prison for attempting to aid the Islamic State. He was let out after eight years of an 11 year sentence. The reason why is still not clear. Investigators say he yelled a lie walk bar before opening fire inside a classroom yesterday morning. ROTC students then subdued and killed him and the investigators have not shared exactly what they did to take down that shooter, but I'm sure lots of people are thankful for what these men and women did. The shooting is being investigated as an act of terrorism. Also happening yesterday, investigators are sharing new information about the truck ramming attack at a Michigan synagogue.

6:05They say the suspect was a naturalized US citizen born in Lebanon and they're calling his actions a quote targeted act of violence against the Jewish community. Please say he drove into the temple Israel in West Bloomfield. This is outside of Detroit yesterday afternoon. He was armed with a rifle, but security shot and killed him as he drove through the building. An officer was hit by that truck, but that officer will be okay. Dozens of first responders arrived on scene, somehow to be treated for smoke inhalation. A preschool was in session at the time, but thankfully, no students or teachers are hurt in that. But of course, an investigation into that incident does continue. Story number four. Let's bring it back here locally where we're hearing from Thomas Massey. And hearing from him specifically on WLWT for the first time in a long time, he does not do a ton of interviews. He obviously is very outspoken on social media right now, but the Republican Congressman sat down with our Todd Dykes and talked with him about a lot of different things, pushing back after President Trump criticized him during his visit to Northern Kentucky on Wednesday.

7:07Massey has been an outspoken Republican critic of the president, especially recently. He has pushed back on policies surrounding government spending, the Epstein files and the war in Iran. Now the president took aim at Massey during his visit to Hebron on Wednesday, urging voters to support his primary opponent at Gullrine. Is the worst person, his name is, what the hell, how did he ever end up in Kentucky? His name is Thomas Massey. Thomas Massey is a disaster for our party. You know, I vote with the party and with President Trump 91% of the time. One of those 9% cases where I deviated, and I think it struck a nerve with him, was when I forced the release of the Epstein files. I authored that bill. I still like Donald Trump, believe it or not. I voted for him three times, but Ronald Reagan said trust but verify, and that's where I am. Well, Kentucky's primary election is May 19th, and this is drawing clearly national attention now. It's just about two months away. Massey says he actually raised nearly $50,000 in online donations after the president's

8:10visit. He says he has no plans to slow down his campaign. And our final story of this morning, talk a little sports march madness. It's been mad all week long, it'll get mad on Sunday, it'll get mad when the tournament starts up next week. But we specifically have to talk about those Miami Red Hawk so many high hopes going through the regular season undefeated entering the Mac tournament as the top seed UMass, who they've already beaten twice. And then the game happened and ended how nobody really wanted it to, oh, it was a rough way to end it. And they're out of the Mac tournament already Miami was in control. They were up by 11 with eight minutes to play. You should be able to finish that off, but UMass storming back, not giving up, taking a lead and holding on to it. The Red Hawk said plenty of experience in close games this season, they've won eight of them by one possession. So pressure is not a problem, but in this time, they just couldn't get it done. Luke Skulljack ending up with a turnover in late in the game that really sealed it UMass, beating Miami, ending their undefeated season 87 to 83, the first loss of the year.

9:14So now the fallout, there's a lot happening here, and I'm just going to take you through it. So they do not get the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, something everybody was hoping they get. So they don't have to worry and sweat out selection Sunday as far as if they get into the field. Now they have to hope to become an at large bid. The first since Miami did it back in 1999 when the Wally Zerbiac was around. So now they have to basically schedule watch. I did it yesterday. I put out a rooting, rooting guide. If you will, what teams to root for to boost Miami's chances. I'll do the same again. I'm social media to hopefully boost Miami's chances, but I think ESPN had them at about a 35 to 40% chance just to make the tournament. Jolenarty, ESPN bracketologist, had them first of the last four into the field. I haven't seen an update on that this morning, but still they have to sweat it out. They cannot let some of these teams are, I mean, they really have no control, I can sit and watch. No, no. The control that was in their hands was lost. Yeah. Now teams that are on the bubble themselves, they start to win a couple games now.

10:17They start getting bumped up and it's it's just not a great situation that Miami was trying to avoid and shout out to UMass for just not rolling over and let Miami keep playing. Because they could have at that point in the game too, been like, all right, this is this is what it is. But you played at the end? Play all the way to the end. For a reason. So do I think they'll get in? I just don't know. I've rooting for them to get in. It'd be a very fun story. They could play in the first four right there in Dayton right around the corner from campus. They'd get a huge crowd, but I don't know. It's tough. It does. It's tough. With the strength of schedule, well, listen, undefeated, they deserve all those accolades. That is so cool. That doesn't happen. That's a hard thing to do no matter who you're playing, no matter how many games you have. That's a challenge and I'm happy for them. They deserve that praise. It's just strength of schedule clearly became an obvious concern as we saw yesterday. And a first round loss in your conference tournament. The Mac, not traditionally a very strong basketball conference.

11:20So a team that now is two games above 500. It's just going to be tough. It's going to be tough. But we'll keep our fingers crossed. So today's games to watch Ohio State in Michigan, play it noon on the B-10 tournament, UK, they'll face Florida. That'll be at one o'clock in the SEC tournament. Here we go with all the basketball and all of the same Patrick's Day stuff. I'm excited. Yeah. Parade tomorrow. All the bars will be ready to go the next few days. Please, please, please.
