I feel incredibly nervous starting to film this.
I have been working on this video, like writing the points and stuff down for over a week now,
thinking about it constantly, putting it off, but I just have to post this, post this, and make it now.
I just came back from the gym and I'm just like, okay, but yeah, that was a really bad hook.
Anyway, this video is about AI and how I'm scared about the world,
but a surprising realization and a lesson that I've had about how we can actually set ourselves up
to, you know, survive, not even thrive in this kind of world.
So I'll begin by saying hello for those who don't know me.
My name is Amy. As you can see, my channel name, and on this channel,
used to primarily make videos targeted towards students helping them succeed sustainably.
Now talking more broadly about self-improvement and self-care, particularly for women,
because I'm a woman. This is already being weird and bad, but I'm just gonna keep going because
that's the point of this video. It's more of a raw video type thing as far as background
and why I'm half naked. It's pretty hot out today.
I graduated from Caltech with a degree in chemical engineering.
My first job was in business management consulting.
Did that for a year and a half while doing business management consulting, which is
if you guys don't know a really, really busy demanding job, I worked on this YouTube channel
at the same time. Fortunately, about four or five months after grad, five months after leaving
consulting, this channel finally blew up and I was able to keep growing it so that this
basically the thing that puts money on the table now.
Okay. The first time I heard of large language models and chat to BT was when my college roommate
asked me to help her with her startup. So she told me, oh, chat to BT, this thing, blah, blah, blah.
This was in the beginning of 2023 and I looked it up and I was like, oh my gosh, this is crazy stuff.
Didn't think much of it and I didn't use it myself. But then once it became more mainstream and
people were saying how it was saving a lot of time for their tasks. In 2024, I was applying
again to Harvard Business School and that darn word count. I wrote everything myself.
But then, oh my gosh, the word count was just so tough. So I put parts of my little essays
for the application into what I thought was chat to BT and I had it help me shrink down the words.
The crazy thing is that a month later when my husband Sean was essentially reviewing the essays
helping me with the application before I submitted, he was like, yeah, just use chat to BT
for this part, improve this line. I was like, all right, bet. I open up what I thought was chat to
BT and then I'm like, yeah, I've been using it but they have this prompt to limit to, you know,
I can only send 10 messages a day and he's like, what? That doesn't happen for me. Let me look at
what you're using. I'm like, yeah, it's right here. He's like, pro, this is chatgpt.org. This is not
the real chatgpt. I'm like, oh, I find this tends to happen to me a lot where I want to be ahead of
the times and I want to use the most efficient tools and tech and stuff and it's very embarrassing
considering how I literally graduated from Caltech. Sorry, admissions officers, you got me wrong
there by letting me in and I'm just a boomer exposing myself there. That's when I realized, oh,
let me switch to chatgpt, the real thing. When I started using it, it was like, holy crap, this thing
is so, so insane. It's so helpful and it just went, when this kind of tool and technology first
comes out, you're just like, this is going to change everything quickly enough. I learned that
chatgpt, my biggest usage of the real thing I started using it for was my therapist kind of,
I would just like dictate, I love the dictate function and it just spill a bunch of things I'm
struggling with or different decisions and the ways I'm thinking about it literally just spill
my brains and then have it synthesize and just the synthesize, synthesize, synthesize, just the
synthesizing, just the synthesis by itself was really helpful to me in getting clarity and to
make decisions faster and so it was just, it really improved my life a lot. However, despite
starting to use the real thing, starting at the end of 2024, it's safer a long, long time,
I don't remember how long, every time I sent a prompt with chatgpt, I felt really guilty because
I have been hearing whispers and things on social media, even though I kind of live under a rock,
I kind of had this, I understand the sentiment about chatgpt or AI in general being like bad
because it uses water and like the environment and stuff and as someone who has always felt
as a type 1 anti-gram, like I'm just always like, oh, like I need to be doing the right thing,
I sort out my recycles meticulously, I take time to rinse out my peanut butter jars to recycle,
but then I feel guilty about using water, wasting water in order to rinse out the peanut butter jar,
to recycle it, I would research for two hours back when we lived in SoCal about how to recycle
our textiles and how to recycle our appliances where the things would actually be reused rather than
just dumped into a landfill, like that's the kind of thing I would do. So that's why I always
felt this kind of guilt, but at the same time I knew it was helpful, but I just really tried to
reduce my usage of chatgpt, now I'm going to continue, I'm going to look at the side sometimes because
I have a lot of points I wrote down that I wanted to cover, compiled from the past week or so.
I always felt irresponsible, but just like we should all do and I technically did too late,
like the moment I felt this guilt and not really understanding the truth behind the water usage and
the environment and impact and everything, I should have looked it up sooner, but my point is
so I looked it up and what I found completely changed how I think about this and it allowed me to
use chatgpt more freely, which in turn helped me be able to make more content and faster. Don't
worry, I have so many ideas up here, I'm using chatgpt for any ideation because as you know,
if you see my channel literally everything I share is like from my own experiences and I share
personal stories a lot, but it just like really again helps synthesize and like organize
different points, help me improve like hook maybe, if I am just brain dumping right. I share
this backstory because I think that a lot of you also have good intentions and also hear whispers
and we're also in the same position as I was, maybe you use it religiously, maybe you use it
sparingly with guilt every time like I did or maybe you refuse to use it at all and you
hate on everyone who does inside. Yeah, I just want to talk about this topic because our world is
changing a lot and maybe I just keep up with the AI news a little too much because it's like
honestly scaring me every day, but I just really want to talk about this and also as in line with
the brand of my channel, I want to talk about how that affects your life to future prove yourself.
All of us, like what we can do to still survive and do on this age and also at the end of the day,
be more productive and self-improve and just achieve our dreams, right? The first thing that I want
to say is that what did I find when I looked it up? Well, the average typical text prompt that you
would put into any model, the energy that uses is the equivalent of around watching nine seconds of
TV. I always worry when I share these tasks because I'm like oh what if I just pulled it from some
wrong place, but across the board what I found is like it's actually not that much of an impact,
when we use it as an individual, especially prompting these like text things, but even more
important than that fact actually, like regardless of the energy consumption by hearing that first
or reading that research that is, that gave me permission to use it more and then what resulted
from that is realizing that I have actually been hurting myself this whole time by not using AI
as much as that it could have been. I realized that I was quietly giving myself a disadvantage
every day, giving myself more friction than what was needed in this day and age while other people
moved faster. And see that's one thing too, that sucks, right? It feels like it's always the more
mindful people who fall behind or like get in a worse situation, but what we'll go into all those
like ethics and worlds and like how the world works and systems and fairness and all that later.
What I do know is that when I started integrating AI more into my routine and in particular
clawed because clawed instead of just telling you what to do or how to do it, they can connect to
your slack and your notion and do the things for you and they can connect to your iCloud notes.
So as someone who literally has over 1,000 iCloud notes, I have not sorted through them yet.
All with like video ideas, things that I can do in the business, mostly video ideas.
This is just a game changer. I can work in clawed co-work and integrate all these different
apps and I can ask, oh based on all my slack messages with my team members, what patterns and issues
keep arising that we should add into the SOPs and then clawed will go automatically put those into
the relevant documentation in notion and then I'm like, oh what are the ideas I've had recently
in iCloud notes? Can you please help transfer them into the correct compound board in notion so
that I can make it a video? And for me, I constantly have this stress that I'm just like not doing
enough in the limited time I have because I don't know if this is irrational, but I just want to
make the business and the content creation as smooth of a machine as possible and as sustainable
as a machine as possible. So then by the time I have kids, which I hope is in a few years,
we'll see in this kind of world, I can maximize my time with them and I can just want to be able to
give them the opportunities that I might have not had or just like if they have some dream,
I want to be able to have the resources to help them achieve that dream to the best of my ability
and it's just I constantly think about my family and that regard like my future and my past one,
so with my parents working so hard to come to the US and then I know how much they had suffered
previously, I won't get into that because that's not what it this video is about, but like maybe
it's like the Asian immigrant guilt that like if you are Asian immigrant kid, you know what I'm
talking about, but that's why I'm always like, oh I need to make more money, I need to like do
these things and then I can you know get back to my family and you know take my grandma and
on good experiences and like so this stress it makes me feel like I have all these ideas,
but I just don't have the resources or capital to deploy to execute you know all of them and to
execute as quickly as I would like. So what AI helped me do is that currently I'm still like working
out how to do the prompting and everything and setting up the automations, but it dramatically
decreases the time from idea to execution, which just makes me so happy and so relieved,
so I can also you know make more content for you know the people watching my awesome community.
Here's the real facts right, firstly you know I has literally been beneficial to me on an individual
level and to my friends who have been using it also as creators and business owners and people
who literally have the same goals as me, I find myself very grateful and lucky to have been able
to surround myself with other people in New York who think the same way as me where like we want to
build not only because we enjoy building, but it's always thinking about like for our future
family or like whatever. The fact is that by using more AI, I can now go to the gym a lot more
consistently than I did before. My mental health has improved. These are all real things and not
to mention when I promoted Thia in three to four videos last year through sponsorships, the reason
I did I was like this is a freaking awesome platform. This is literally an AI tutor that students from
all over the from all over the world can use and it levels the playing field and it turned out to be
true like I've gotten so so many comments that say Amy I'm so grateful you show you showed me
Thia I'm using it all the time I'm studying way better people from four parts of the world just like
thank you so much I couldn't afford tutoring but now I can actually learn just like my peers.
It's just undeniable benefit of these tools but you know a lot of things can coexist right so
we'll get into that but another point is that my friend who runs his business who that helps
students get jobs in software engineering. He also discovered Colotte at around the same time as me.
He set up a meeting team meeting with several of his team members or employees I don't know the
formality and he demoed Colotte. He was like screen screen sharing showing how they should connect
Colotte with their emails their notions their other tools to save them time. He saw on Zoom visibly
every single team member look both shocked and extremely relieved at the same time. In fact one of
his team members was like he sat back and he's like this is going to cut the time that it takes me
to do the documentation each day down like tenfold and I can finally spend more time with my wife
like how beautiful is that it's like it truly can create these great things on an individual level
right. The great thing too is that what I've realized as someone who grew up having a scarcity mindset
and this conditioning that I'm trying to fight against every day in order to you know do better
my business invest in tools and stuff is that like I first found that it was a good thing that I'm
able to now you know invest in editors invest in an EA invest in whatever right I was able to do
that starting from the money that I earned in consulting and then by continuing to reinvest what I
what I earned because even though it's been kind of a rough few years with Sean in business school
so we're like not the best on cash flow I I'm not a big spender like consumer like I just in general
I don't buy like a single luxury thing because this is not my thing and I just like well thousands
of dollars like I'm all reinvesting that into my business right so what I find interesting is that
I became a more able to invest in people to help my business but I still cringe at like oh my
gosh like a hundred dollar per month subscription because it's a subscription it's a subscription
you know we're all like complaining about I don't know Netflix increasing their subscription
by a dollar every year or something but then I realized this is so cheap AI is so so cheap
personally like a tutor right I don't know I used to charge even like in high school $20
an hour or something well your AI could be $20 a month and it could be like your AI tutor that
you can access at any time just like when people were thanking me about Thea with a cloud right
like I'm on the max plan of the $100 per month like this is so cheap because it does this
tasks that could would have taken literally five hours like my really messy files my folders that
I've just been too busy grinding on new content for new sponsors or new whatever
too sort like a lot of those maintenance stuff has just been left there it would take myself maybe
honestly like 10 hours it was just a lot bark at higher my like an EA for like $20 an hour
it would take them 10 hours so that's like $200 that's already more than cloud $100 per month
and that's not the only task that cloud it's gonna do like cloud's gonna organize your files it's
gonna write your SOPs is going to do all these things right so I'm just learning to that wow
like these tools make me feel like my creative desires and the world is just more open to me
because of the way that it's just this resource that I didn't think I could afford before like
I can't hire like this many people you know so that is the first thing I'm sorry about I'm genuinely
sorry I did not start using these tools earlier whether it's trashybt even though trashybt is bad
now don't use them it's kind of weird right it's like there's always some bad things and some good
things and it's like oh should I use this and give all my data well I guess it's okay because
everyone has all our data anyway so I might as well use this tool to help me with my everyday
tasks and live a good life while I'm still here but like cloud co-work I'm really sorry it did
not discover cloud earlier this also kind of goes into my second sorry I'm sorry to those who hate
AI because it's no longer a matter of choice but it's a matter of survival what I'm trying to say is
that I'm sorry to those who don't like AI because you're gonna have to use it if you want to survive
in this new world the thing is that AI is not necessarily replacing people it's replacing
people who don't use AI because people will be the ones using the tools at the end of the day
if you are someone who like me has to continue working in your life you're gonna have to use it
to stay competitive like staying competitive is just not an option so unless you watching this
or someone who'd never has to work a single additional day in your life
you're gonna have to use AI you're gonna have to learn the skills and you better learn prompt
engineering as soon as possible because all this all this stuff and agreed upon by top entrepreneurs
and you know the other other visionaries of the world this is all table stakes now all the tools
out there all the productivity tools that are reaching out to me even once that didn't have AI
before like you know Adobe Acrobat has been around for ages all of these have AI integrated right
now if you're still using tools the old way without AI well that's just like that's like you
choosing to gallop around the country on a horse instead of driving a car besides the survival
and table stakes part that could sound scary and daunting well like I alluded to earlier it can also
AI can also be something that excites us a little in terms of how it can help us at the individual
level of achieving our dreams because maybe you didn't have resources to make some kind of idea
you had to come to life and now you can for a lot cheaper so for example I really really love
Avatar James Cameron's Avatar the Blue people movie I think I've watched I've definitely watched
the third one two times now and the other is like I don't know five times but I saw a YouTube pop
up this video that said Verong's backstory so if you don't know Verong is one of the villains in
the third movie she's really cool I was like oh my gosh I click this YouTube video it's beautiful
it moved me it like the story of Verong made me cry I was tearing up just like
this is so beautiful and guess what I looked down in the comments this was completely generated
with AI you know again we'll get into the actual environmental stuff and like the ethics stuff later
but then I look into this person's profile it seems like this person has always had this
creative eye ability to direct and put together a story to story tell this person with his
YouTube channel who made this video that is literally James Cameron level content they might have
never been able to create a video like this ever in their lives because it's really hard I assumed
to break into Hollywood as anything let alone you know directing an entire movie to this scale and
again quality of the video but with AI this person was able to achieve their dreams
another thing is that for myself right I have always wanted to make an app but I really gave up on
that because I just don't have time to code or learn coding besides my lovely cow's XCS1 class so
I was like ah whatever just continue doing the stuff that I have at least experience in it's too bad
I didn't study CS now you not using any kind of computer game but then last year but that sound
last year I got an email from studio.com they're saying that oh we're helping creators build their own
AI coaching apps and guess what I don't actually need to code at all all I need to do is use
English language and turn my ideas for my app into reality I still spent like months and months
and hours on it but because this option this open to me I actually was able to now make an app
and that's so cool so that's why I built XEC and it's not promo for XEC but just an example of like
wow you can achieve things you never thought possible before looking back at my notion doc now I'm
gonna say a few phrases that I wrote down word for word that I think are nice so in that case of
that YouTube video that was describing earlier that person could have never made that video at a
traditional production budget but the tools made it possible and AI didn't replace the storyteller
it gave the storyteller access so what I really support is AI super charging humans to do what they
couldn't have done before and it's actually allowing us to be more human like it's allowing
my friends and employee to spend more time with his wife it's allowing me to go to the gym or
take care of my mental health and lives the actual human being instead of being like on this hamster
wheel of producing all the time and it's allowing in some case like artists like this aspiring director
to actually make their art come to life and again look back to like the art uh and like the
downsides right that's what I hope is the actual future of AI creativity is not replacing artists
but removing the financial gatekeeping that was always there I know that's different for
different industries and I don't know this line is not like fully okay that's why this is a video
that's more like a discussion rather than me just like telling you things even though the one thing
that I do have conviction about again is that we need to use AI like every single person needs to
use and learn AI but anyway next what I do want to say what I do want to say as if this whole video
hasn't been just saying things I want to say I mentioned I wanted to use AI sooner right but I do
feel like it's really difficult to acquire new skills at the expense of your time and effort
to doing the work that puts food on the table currently right so what I mean is like previously
because I'm running on this hamster wheel I don't have the time to learn AI tools that would
help me not run on the hamster wheel so much does that make sense it's like there there could be
some struggle of oh I know I need to learn AI I know I need to develop these tools and was
prompt engineering but I work a full-time job and I have my family to take care of they're just
aren't hours in the day when I can take out and learn this new skill right I definitely felt
that too and that's why I just constantly felt so stressed and I still feel stressed I'm not learning
AI fast enough a lot of stress and I feel like it just sucks because it feels like it
rich people just always have the advantage right they can choose to stop working right now
if they wanted to and they can actually technically choose not to learn AI skills if they want to
but if they so choose they actually have the ability to set aside a lot of time per day to develop
those skills right yeah they they have the time to learn AI because they don't have to work and so
for myself most of my friends we're too busy doing the thing that puts food on the table then to
learn stuff that seems outside of it but just is just as important so what I will say that for
myself what I'm trying to do and what I think that we can do is that we can use AI in the moment
to do the tasks we already have to do anyway and that way we're kind of you know learning by doing
as I say in my academic content videos okay going into effects around AI I will emits
I had a lot of help me find these so I hope they're I hope they're accurate but I did cross-search
cross-search a lot of them like mentioned before one AI text prompt is about the energy equivalent
around nine seconds of TV so you know if you're streaming Netflix also know that Netflix and all
these companies Spotify Google whatever they're all using data centers these data centers all take
energy and require water to cool down and everything right so you know iCloud too they're all running
on the same infrastructure all US data centers combined they're approximately 4% of US electricity
in 2024 and AI is a subset of that and also again as consumers right like sometimes I just
feel like oh man why are we like nagging on the individual consumer who's like trying to use AI to
like improve their lives on an individual level when firstly their impact is not nearly as much as
what when people are developing the AI models right and what I was there's so much I can say on
this but I hope that people get it but just worry that no matter how thorough I am there's always
going to be something coming at me but that that's something I've been trying to develop myself
anyway just character wise or strength wise I don't know just that being on the internet means that
everyone's going to have an opinion and it's inevitable that if you have strong enough conviction
on one thing then there's going to be other people on the other side of the line so okay whatever
just full send so yeah AI is not uniquely worse it's just the newest visible target I want to caveat
that again I do not use AI for generating ideas creative decisions thinking through concepts I do
use AI for summarizing organizing drafting emails research synthesis admin admin so for me AI handles
the infrastructure but I handle the substance and that's the way I love it like me I mean that's why
I started YouTube in the first place I never made content because I want to be a content creator and
I never made content because I want followers I just had a lot to say and I still have so much to
say every day that's why my iCloud notes has 1000 iCloud notes because when I'm at the gym
I'm walking in the New York streets I think of things and I just have to write it down so you know
they're from my own brain from my own life and experiences I think of using AI
I was using like a calculator to multiply two really huge numbers together right so I personally
still to this day I try to do as much mental math as possible because I did math competitions
before and I know that you know a strength is my brain and it makes me feel guilty that I feel
like I'm getting dumber day by day in the math at least you know um what I realized too
as an aside is that while I feel like often still guilty about the sunk cost of like having
study engineering and not using those skills well there's a different kind of intelligence and I
think it's you know like I'm saying my video is a lot like soft skills and like now like creativity
anyway guys um unrelated but with math right a calculator helps you multiply big numbers that could
be tedious to do now you could and you know hopefully how to multiply numbers so you could do it
by paper by hand do you like uh write out these numbers okay multiply carry the digits blah blah
blah right but you're gonna use a calculator because it's just way easier and faster and so like
for me right I could you know take 10 hours and organize my files but I know that someone else
now someone I know that hey I can do it for me so I'm gonna let the calculator do that tedious
maths you know I just realized this video comes out of good timing because although I have been
promoting AI tools in the past like year and a half this week I do have a video that's more
that's dedicated so fair warning but it's with a cool partner that I actually mentioned already
in this video I does know that people are gonna already you know come at me in some way but you know
I just just owning it I hope that this makes something's clear and you know I think education and
thinking critically about stuff in the world is more important than anything that you know even
without AI social media has been rotting her brains like the way that humans choose to do things and
the way that they you know reduce critical thinking and they're getting quote unquote like dumber
rice not just because of AI it's because of our choices if anything right don't accept everything
on social media as gospel because that'll be silly so with this brand deal right let me share
you with you about the creator economy reality and why promote what I promote so here's something
nobody wants to say how loud right now the biggest brand deals available for creators are AI brands
so if you create content and you want to keep creating which means you want to continue serving your
audience and not disappear off the face of the earth and keep making the work you need income to do
that you need deals so even as a creator who is doing art who is making something you essentially
have to work with AI sponsors or you're going to fall behind the creators who do and you're not
going to be able to support yourself in the end of homeless not actually but um actually maybe
actually because like I said everyone needs to be involved in AI in some way and so just like I
said earlier AI is becoming table stakes so any tool whether it's you know granularly like I said
Adobe acrobat other tools I can think of right now they all include AI right now like are you
really just not going to take on any tech brand deals any deals that have to do with productivity
because they're going to include AI and so with the creators right you can't keep creating your art
without the money to sustain it I have felt this first hand literally all the deals coming to me now
are like AI I've been telling my um manager so you know the one who helps me negotiate brand deals
I've been like oh do you feel like we're taking too many like AI brand deals right now I think
people are getting mad I see a lot of comments and other creators videos when they promoting AI
and then she's like yeah I've been feeling the same way but you know this is just the way that
the system is right now and probably into the future and um that's all the deals that are coming in
right now so I will say though that I always only accept brand deals with people or with brands that
I like believe in actually you know in fact I'm just going to say it out there I said no to this
therapy brand multiple times when they offered me money that was double my asking price
and I'm going to say that there are a lot of creators that you probably watched that continue
to work with this brand that even though they're unethical they're out there okay you can
you can put it together so yeah when I do take an AI deal it's not because I know choice and
compromised is because the tools are real I use them and it's actually completely on brand
right like please please be more productive and use these AI tools because as an individual again
there's not rich you've got to do anything you can to future-preview yourself because it's your
life your life you need to you need to think about you know your future your kids your family
even so I understand the creators who take deals even if they're less sure about them because
again the alternative is not being able to create at all now if you're a rich creator if you
was already like a millionaire of your pick at any brand deal you want please don't use the
unethical stuff like that therapy company I was talking to you about but at the end of day I'm just
saying like can you really blame someone for doing what they do in order to keep the lights on
like people keep asking oh make more videos can you do this can you do that but then they get
mad at like oh another sponsorship I see those comments all the time even for non-AI brands it's like
do you think we do content as just like a side fun hoppy man like we can make the quality content
that we can otherwise um yeah there's not a dig at you because I don't know the people who are
watching you know what's funny likely the people who are watching this are the people who are
actually reasonable and not the people making those digs at creators because they are actually
rational so yeah sorry sometimes I forget that and it's like it's still hard to imagine you're
like speaking to so many people at once you know even though you know I'm talking to you as an
individual wink because I can't wink so now before I get into this next part I want to flag
something I'm going to bring up some examples that have nothing to do with AI on the surface but
that I have been thinking about for years even before starting my youtube journey what are these
things these are fast fashion luxury influencers they Amazon rainforest and I need you to stay with me
because they are not tangents every single one of them is the same story people with power making
decisions that benefit them and the people with the least power absorbing the consequences that
pattern didn't start with AI it's just that now for a lot of you watching this is the first time
that pattern has landed close enough to feel personal and that's exactly why I think it's worth
talking about firstly fast fashion is the comparison nobody wants to make but everyone should
there's so many fashion creators man I love fashion myself but I can't stand when influencers
promote overconsumption and their praise for it they're rewarded for this behavior
this very rich talk tick talker is contributing a lot to the world diet I'm just saying that okay
so fast fashion 10% of global carbon emissions more than all international flights and maritime
shipping combined she and alone generates 16.7 million tons of CO2 in just 2023 equivalent to
four coal power plants running for a full year Sara Ajanem next pre-mark these brands are flooding
the world with unsealable clothing like I can't oh my god I hate Black Friday and I honestly I
I like struggled to go into malls now ever since watching the documentary called by now the shopping
conspiracy on on Netflix I felt this way before every Black Friday it felt super dystopian to me
but I feel even more it's like all of those clothes all those copies of the same thing there's no one
in this world who needs those clothes there's absolutely no one like where is that all gonna go well
that's how you work goes it goes to Ghana canta Manto sorry I don't know how to pronounce that
this market in Ghana receives 15 million garments every week from the west 40% of it is unsealable
on arrival on enough those girly pop women empowerment self-love creators who talk about
I just implied I just said it empowering women I'll have some of promoting tons of overconsumption
guess what those women in those poor places of the world who sort and carry this waste that
those influencers are contributing to and promoting other people to contribute to they are paid
less than one dollar per trip carrying up to 200 pounds on their heads their spines are messed up
and some even die from it and subscribed by the ore foundation as working in modern day slavery
the core I sort of looked up how to pronounce these before this the the core lagoon in Ghana
Ghana's own president called it the most polluted spawner there are places in Southeast Asia that
to get rid of waste not only clothes but a lot of you know plastics that we don't need they're
burning these and emitting these carcinogens into the air nobody goes into the comment section
a bizarre whole video and says a word or any of these consumption creators and I feel like
the reason the world is the way that it is it's because of these patterns it's very easy to go and say
like oh but like AI is bad well why don't we bring that to every area is what I'm saying right
if we put our dollars in our attention where our mouth is maybe we as the people who are the
consumers don't have to continue to give attention and engagement to these already rich influencers
promoting over consumption bottom line the harm has always existed it just used to land far enough
away that people here didn't feel it and thus didn't think about it didn't care about it and
didn't be loud in comments about it further now going into the AI and art thing art has never
been valued the way it deserves AI did not create that there's a reason why it's called starving
artist this starving artist thing has existed for a very very long time society has always consumed art
without paying the people who make it enough now AI generating images from script art is indeed
painful but is the painful extension of something already true humans chronically under value
creative labor and by creative I don't mean like YouTube videos that you know our vlogs or
informational educational content I mean like real real art that exists for the beauty of it
and I thought of this last night here's the most irrefutable proof this isn't about AI if we so
care about art and beauty why are we burning down the Amazon rainforest did you know that we're
cutting down trees so we can eat more burgers on Instagram a lot of people say like oh why are you
always like relating our latest stuff I think this is all related now the most breathtaking
irreplaceable thing on this planet millions of years of natural art destroyed for profit without
a fraction of the outrage directed at a chatbot again this is stuff I've been thinking about for
a long time about why are people not so mad about the bad things that are already happening in the
world way way long before AI existed and I'm not like same myself right still like eat meat
but again as far as the individual we can do our best and like I said I do in the beginning
all try to recycle try to do this xyz reduce my consumption over like I'm I literally don't
every time I shop I think for like days to be like oh is this the best item that I can get where
I never have to buy this thing again and oh my gosh I don't want to buy this new thing that
like Sean tells Sean Sean all the time is telling me like oh you should buy this new thing that's
gonna make your life easier because higher quality and it has these functions and I'm like no I don't
want to because I don't want to throw away the old thing so this is something I think about a lot
and I feel so so sad that like for example the cure to cancer could be in the Amazon rainforest
not only that but have you guys seen those nature documentaries I don't know about you but I grew
up with my parents always playing like the nature documentaries and I read so many nature books
I went to the zoo a lot and I'm just like I just think it's so so sad and with every level
there are things that we can do but you know again people at the top can do the most
and I think that the people at the top and those who are given the platform that I so wish I had
they're again being rewarded for perpetuating the idea of oh you should buy Louis Vuitton
oh you should like get 100 roses for Valentine's Day oh you should XYZ and they're flaunting it
they're essentially flaunting themselves killing the earth in ways that they don't have to you know
like maybe you and I will use AI because now we have to like I said we will eat meat because we
need protein but people are doing things that they don't have to in ways that are much more
impactful if the concern again is generally about protecting beauty and creative work the targets
are wildly misaligned now the most depressing point of all and why I love watching dystopian movies
and movies in general that share about human nature this is all human nature it has always been
human nature and kind of avoided calling it out before but for example actually I'm not going
to use any names but very rich tiktokker who I've heard of and I've seen a few videos about
she always does regular luxury unboxings of Dior Chanel Bogari fanciful narpoles or mes a lot of
things she does a lot of things she celebrated not condemned she has a platform and that's saying a
lot she has literally the platforms like made because she's rich in doing all these things that's
saying a lot it's not enough voices going into those common sections and saying words about the
environmental impact the people at the top won't stop because there have never been consequences
for them ever so why would they why would they and if their lovely viewers and audiences
celebrate them for doing it well then yeah again why would they stop this is not just about AI or
the ultra wealthy it is true at every level of human behavior for example people say they will work
out but they never do until a health consequence forces it by then it's harder and possibly too
late right so with the people pushing AI along just like ha ha ha ha I know this is probably not
a good idea but I'm gonna do it anyway when do they stop I'm like telling them okay Claude is
enough Claude is great you can stop here but they're not going to and by the time the consequences
they're forced to and that's that's actually the part that scares me the most because I do
want to live a long life with my husband and my future family people say they'll get off their
phones study better change their habits but they never do until forced by consequence the powerful
don't stop extracting until consequence arrives that's just what's been shown in every industry
every era every dystopian story we keep telling ourselves in all the movies that already exist
out there AI is not a new problem it is the same problem with a new face now close enough for more
people to feel it the proximity of harm has shifted before it landed in Ghana now it could be someone
two streets down same shape but the distance just as strong now I don't expect you to protest or
walk up to a billionaire's door and be like stop it stop it I don't expect you again as an
individual to stop using their tools because I've already said enough why but if you're going to
write criticism and again the people likely reading watching this video are not the unreasonable folks
if you're going to write criticism in a comment section direct it somewhere it actually makes sense
write that comment on the rich tiktakers video where she buys a new designer bag every week go find
the luxury hall content where the overconsumption is right there visible celebrated fun fact
she know that luxury industries are scam this has been on my video ideas list for so long
and I'm going to make a video about it soon but I just can't believe the number of influencers out
there who who just all like flash this all the time when it's actually making the the their like
audience members feel inadequate and feel like that's what success is when that's actually a really
really bad financial decision if you're going to spend money spend it on and like invest it luxury
is not investment piece did you know that the actual worth of those luxury products is way less it's
marked up 10 times the actual value now that is a scam that we should get mad about and most of
its manufactured in China fun fact all related all related or maybe I'm just weird and
but yeah your energy has a cost too so if you're going to spend it spend it where the actual
harm is proportional to the outrage so what does this actually mean for you
the filming for while and I feel myself getting more and more delirious and my face getting hotter
the world is not a sorry the choice is not world with AI versus world without AI that choice
does not exist the choices do you know how to move in the world as it is or do you fall behind
on principle while everyone else moves forward for anyone who isn't isn't independently wealthy
in a world getting more volatile opting out is not a principled stance it's a disadvantage with no
upside like I said I'm stressed about the urgency every single day this is survival it's just like
you're you're saving up money before an economic downturn or like learning a skill before you
need it a smartphones weren't optional once employers assumed you had one email wasn't optional once
every workplace used it this is that moment as a reminder let me know if you fall into this bucket
but here's the honest truth about who can actually choose to opt out AI only people who will never
have to work another day in their lives if you never need income again never need to compete never
need to keep up fine that choice is available to you it's just not available to me and I assume
not a lot of people watching this video and again you know as I've been doing all these years I'm
very passionate about sharing things so people don't have to learn the hard way and um this video
has been a long time coming by just I don't know who's gonna watch it um but like I said the
reason I create just I just I'm just dying to say something I just just have to get it out you
know where am I uh yeah even if you hate AI even if every single one of your concerns is valid
you just still be using it right now that's not a contradiction that's the reality of the world
we're in you can tell right now that I'm reading more word for word because I'm like well I need to
get this right and yeah honestly this video doesn't even benefit me you know what would benefit me
more is if I never tell you about these tools and I get keep and I'm like never being like oh
yeah I should you say I have your productivity or anything because I could just keep using them
to get ahead but my channel has been always has always been about showing what actually do
and conclusion time I was wrong about AI I thought the responsible thing was to use it less
turns out the most responsible thing for my time for my energy my mental health and my future
was to learn how to use it well if you have been holding back for the same reasons I was go
do the research don't go with the feeling go with the data that is always the move thank you
very much for listening to this different video it's now 636 and I'm hungry so I'm gonna eat dinner now
thank you I didn't know how to end this but all that to say is like um hope to see you around next
year
