5 BOLD COMMANDERS PREDICTIONS: 10 Wins, Playoffs + 30 TDs for Jayden
About this episode
Locked On Commanders - Daily Podcast On The Washington Commanders is made possible by:
Five bold Washington Commanders predictions for 2026 start with 10 wins and a playoff return without asking Jayden Daniels to carry the team by himself. I’m predicting 30-plus touchdown passes with fewer than 700 rushing yards for Daniels, 1,000-yard seasons from Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs, Sonny Styles winning Defensive Rookie of the Year, and at least 20 takeaways.
Then, the five games Washington has to bank on its way to 10 wins and why the 2024 winning formula can return through quarterback stability, better offensive structure, a survivable defense and more neutral turnover football.
Host David Harrison covers the the Commanders Commanders for the Locked On network and for WUSA9 as a digital beat reporter.

And on today's episode, why the 2024 winning formula for the Washington Commanders could return the five games at Washington has to bank in order to reach the playoffs in 2026. But first five bold predictions that end with 10 wins and with January football, we are in game week. It is the first game week of the season we have made it this time next week. We will be talking about the Washington Commanders first win of the season, having defeated the Philadelphia Eagles on the road in week one to start the season. And I thought, you know what, man, it's fun, it's energy. Let's have fun on this first episode of the week.
And so we're doing some bold predictions. I got five bold predictions, five games of commanders have to win to make the playoffs. And five reasons for you to believe that 2024 magic could return the 2026 commanders will rebound because they will become or are becoming less dependent on Jane Daniels doing extraordinary things which we all know he can do. And we love seeing him do it, not because Jane Daniels doesn't want to do it, but because he's not going to have to do it. That is my opinion. And that is the basis of what we're talking about in all three segments here is that the commanders are going to take the pressure off of Jane Daniels every prediction, every conversation is going to demonstrate one way that that burden gets distributed. So I got 15 ways that that burden is going to get distributed, including two Jane Daniels. So Washington scored 28 and a half points per game in 2024. That number plummeted to 20.9 in 2025, not to bring up bad memories, but just restate in fact here, Jane Danes, of course, only started seven games, but the 2026 offense is
deliberately changing the operation more huddle, more under center, more play action and more multiplicity from similar formations, making different things look same, makes things look different. Washington also believes, and I believe that this is the best receiver group that Jane Daniels has ever played with. No disrespect some of the other guys he's played with, but this group is just better. So bull predictions, five of them. First one, Jaden Daniels is going to throw 30 touchdown passes, but he's going to run for fewer than 700 yards, which I know if he's your fantasy football quarterback, like he is mine. That might kind of hit your ear a little bit wrong, but 30 touchdown passes. Tell you right now is nothing small, right? It's not a prediction that Washington is taking away Jaden Daniels legs. It's not what we're talking about here. David Blow is not cutting Jane Daniels off at the knees or. Anything like that, right? It's a prediction that his development and the offense is development will become what. Gives us the opportunity to see Jaden Daniels operate as much more of a traditional quarterback with the ability to do that next level stuff, right?
As a rookie, Jaden Daniels 25 passing touchdowns 891 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns to 2026 offense is going to give him more of the conventional play action, the keepers, the movement passes, opportunists to manipulate defenses from under center instead of requiring him to be the solution in that second play. Like we saw so much in 2024 in the next step for Jaden is not becoming a better scrambler. Obviously, because he's already one of the best and the game to do it, it's turning some of the plays that used to end with Jaden running for seven yards to turning them into completions for hopefully eight yards or 22 yards or whatever it is, right? That is the third year quarterback leap that not just is on Jaden, but on the offense. As a whole that we could be seeing develop in 2026 number two, both prediction, Terremaklorn and Stefan Diggs, both going to get over a thousand receiving yards this season. It's a little bit bolder than the one we just talked about, Stefan Diggs just came off in 85 catch, one thousand 13 yard season with the New England Patriots barely over the thousand yard Mark Terremaklorn had a thousand 96 yards, his last healthy full season with
Jaden Daniels Washington has not had two thousand yard receivers in the same year since Pierre Garçon and Dishon Jackson in 2016. It's been a little while. I like that comparison as well. Stefan Diggs does not have to be the Buffalo Bills era Stefan Diggs that we saw during that time with Josh Allen. He can be a volume receiver. He can use the separation middle of the field ability, all that stuff be that answer while Terremaklorn remains that explosive scoring threat. And oh, by the way, Terremaklorn going to do some of that other stuff as well this year Terremaklorn might win the yardage and the touchdown race to be quite honest with you. But I think Stefan Diggs comes away with the reception lead for the Washington commanders bold prediction number three. Let's turn to a rookie analyst turned to the defense aside of the ball. Sonny styles is going to lead Washington in tackles. That's not super spicy. He's also going to win the defensive rookie of the year award that by itself. Listen, both those things by themselves. Not the spicy's bold predictions in the world, but getting the lead in tackles for the watchman and getting the defensive rookie of the year award, even though you are the
number seven overall pick. That's where we get a little bit bullies out the athletic profile. He's going to have an immediate role in this defense. And there is a scheme that's going to help him accumulate stats. That's one of the things I talked about when he was drafted here. He's going to have the opportunity to play passing lanes, potentially get interceptions, passes broken up. He's going to have the ability to fit our fill run fits, giving him tackles tackles for loss potential. He's also have the ability to play on the edge more tackle for loss potential, sack potential and that could turn him to an off ball linebacker that is not a brand of off ball linebacker that the NFL is used to seeing. Typically, your off ball linebacker is not a lot of production outside of tackles. Sunny styles could have one of the most diverse resumes coming out of his rookie season that we've seen from an off ball linebacker in quite some times. And we know that Doron Day Jones is going to use all three linebackers. So even if you're kind of sitting there saying, hold up. What about Leo Chanel? Well, Leo Chanel is going to get plenty of burn in this defense. But so too is sunny. Obviously, on top of Frankie Lubew, who was selected as a team captain. We will talk about some of the team captain stuff in our next episode coming up when we
get a little bit back more to the news ahead of Wednesday's first practice of the official first practice of the regular season week one of the regular season, right? The deeper point here is I think sunny styles is going to be just a little bit more than just a good rookie, right? Which is what a rookie of the year really is just a little bit better than just a good rookie, right? If he's merely a promising player getting like 55% of the snaps, that this prediction may not come true. But if he's getting 70%, maybe 75% of the snaps. I think Frankie is going to get 90% plus of the snaps potentially, I think, should all like 50 to 60% 60% of the snaps. I think it's a good number for sunny. You want to see him on there like 70% of the time to hit this, hit these marks, right? Maybe he's an every down guy running, covering, blitzing, helping clean up plays. So if Frankie Lubew doesn't have to do all that stuff, Dorontay Jones is going to have himself a chess piece in the middle of that defense. Like we hope he got when that impetus made him sunny styles, the number seven overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft. Fourth, bold prediction, Washington defense will produce at least 20 takeaways.
And here's the saddest part about that bold prediction because as a commanders fan at first blush, you might have been like, whoa, 20 takeaways. That's really not even like going to lead the NFL. That's not like a leading number, right? But it's a good number. It's a solid number. Last year, they had just 10 takeaways, eight interceptions, two fumbles recovered and they gave the ball away 23 times minus 13 turnover differential, differential, just ridiculously bad turnover situation, right? And it simply boils down to kind of scheme competence, execution competence with a lot of different competence, right? Washington Mayor spent the off season doing everything in their power and Adam Peters power to turn this thing around, give Dorontay Jones all the stuff he needs in the scheme to make this thing happen. More edge disruption with the Daufeo way, Caleb on chase on against sunny styles, going to get edge reps. Leo Shenall is going to get edge reps. Both those guys are going to play land back or aggression in the secondary corner back on me, Robertson, Rousseau Douglas, safety, Nick Cross coming in, tell the secondary. They've done what they can do to try to go out there and turn over the ball, produce the football right?
Dorontay Jones's staff has openly said that takeaways are a major part of what they're trying to do. The commanders don't need a great defense per se to change the season. But man, if they can give the wash mares offense, even at a league average, just 20 times all year. If you can give Jane Danes a football without making them go 75 yards for a score, that can be all the difference, especially in some of these close games that the commanders won in 2024, it lost in 2025, more often than not. Full prediction number five, the Washington commanders are going to finish 10 and seven, and they're going to make the playoffs. This is where the first four predictions pay off for the wash mares of Jane Danes becomes a more efficient distributor through this new scheme, through his more intelligent play. We see him throw the ball away in practice. Need to see that translate to the regular season on the field. If Washington legitimately has two upper level receivers, which I believe they do in Terry McClaurne and Stefan Diggs, if sunny styles can help make a difference in the middle of that defense. And if the commanders can find a way to add another 10 takeaways to the 10 they had last year, then seven and 10 would be shocking.
If all four of those things happen, seven and 10 would be a stunning result for those wash mares team. I think the dominant projection for the commanders right now is seven wins. So 10 obviously is more than that, right? But it's not 14. So we're not like going, you know, we're not shooting for the moon here, right? We're talking about three more wins than they're projected. I'm not predicting the 2024 Jane Daniels is going to come back and rescue everybody here, right? And predicting that the wash commanders are building a team or have built a team in some ways that doesn't need 2024 Jane Daniels to return to the field. And that fact would make Jane Daniels actually more dangerous than before coming up next watching the playoff path depends more on beating the teams. It should be rather than stealing games from some of the league's elite teams that more coming up next on today's episode of Lockdown Commanders part of the Lockdown podcast network your team every day. The commanders playoff potential will not be determined by whether or not I can steal a game from the NFC's elite. It would be nice, but it's going to be determined by whether or not it stopped spending its margin for error against teams that it should beat. Thank you for making a lot of time. I'm going to first listen of the day every day to the everydayers come through for every single episode. I appreciate you coming back through for this one as well. Before we're talking about games that teams got to win the games that if you're a good team, there are just certain games that are going to be wins and you're not going out there and having a one point win against the team that you should probably win going away because that's a mojo that's energy that's that's a close win that you need to use against the Seattle sea hawks of the world. For example, five games of wash commanders have to win to make the playoffs. We're not talking Philadelphia Eagles. We're not talking sea hawks, Niners, Rams. Those are opportunities. Those are games where you can gain an advantage that you maybe weren't supposed to have or were expected to have, right? Those are games where you're probably coming in underdogs. These games are the must win games. Let's be let's be quite honest with the way that people look at the wash commanders right
now. They may still be underdogs in some of these games, but these are the games. Now before we ever even see this team take the field, you know if the commanders make the playoffs, these five games are going to be critical to doing so because if you go five and oh, in these games and you could go five and oh, in these games, then you only got to go four and eight to go nine and eight. You only got to go five and seven to go ten and seven, right? So five and oh, in these five games, that's what you want to do. Go three and two in these five games. Now you got to play winning football seven and five against the rest of your schedule. And that's going to be really hard to do this season. Not even just because of how good the commanders might be, but just how good their opponents are, right? Current schedule. You got the Super Bowl champs, sea hawks. You got the Eagles, two time NFC used to be in champs. Boo, I know, but they are who they are. You got the Rams who are one of the favorites to potentially go to the Super Bowl. You got the Niners who are kind of a mess at receiver, but also kind of a really good team, right? And you got the Niners, at least on the road. Obviously, you got the Eagles at road on the road in a home, right? One of the hardest schedules in the National Football League. So these five games, week five is our first game.
The washmaker is absolutely just got to win. There's no excuse. You got to come away with the win. New York Giants at the Washington commanders. Why this one over Dallas? Because again, must win doesn't just mean important game. Every divisional game is important. I know we all hate the Cowboys, but that doesn't make it a must win game for this season to get this team into this year's playoffs. Giants at Washington, you got to do it because a loss, a loss makes the burden of the rest of your schedule this year. So much worse, you lose with the Giants and you got to pick up a win somewhere else to break even. Then you got to pick up another winning as a senior, I was supposed to beat to gain that game back, right? You started Philadelphia, you started Dallas, Seattle, then you got any Napoli's and London. If you can come out of that four game stretch two and two, I think you're in pretty good shape. What do you go to and two? Obviously matters, right? But just generally speaking, if you can go to and two in those first four games, you feel pretty good. You come home against the Giants. Jackson Dart, look, he can be a little bit dangerous. John Harbock, I think is going to change the fortune of New Jersey football. I'm convinced of it, but it doesn't have to happen in 2026. So you can look at that situation, say, listen, this is a prime opportunity.
Come out here, go three and two after five games. You got one more game before the buy. You're guaranteed at least three and three going in the buy. If not four and three, that'd be great. Steel one or four and two, steel one against the Niners going into the buy. Four and two, you'd feel incredible about the way I think the course of the season, right? But if you view yourself as a playoff team, this is a game you absolutely have to win. The next one, week 10, who's the opponent? It's New York Giants. You got to beat the New York Giants. If you got to beat him the first time, you got to be in the second time. This is intentional, right? Put them on here twice in 2024. The Washington commanders break through season. It doesn't just because they had these up, you know, spectacular upsets and wins they weren't supposed to have all these things. They also banked the games. A playoff team is supposed to bank sweeping the Giants is one of those things that you have to do, right? It's not just two generic wins that you just check off the block, right? You're getting wins, but you're also getting division wins. You're getting head to head positioning. And this one is a little bit trickier, right? Because the commanders play the Rams Sunday, November 8th, then they go to New Jersey for Thursday night football, November 12th.
So it's a little bit trickier than you're just run of the mill Giants game, right? So that's what makes it a real must when I think nobody cares in January when the playoffs meetings come out that you were tired on Thursday night on November 12th, right? Third game, no more Giants. So let's get into some other opponents here. Week 12, Washington in Arizona, the play of the Cardinals. This is the most obvious one on the list to me. Arizona went three and 14 last year. They projected to win maybe four games this season. They got a 1.4% playoff probability. If you have any chance of making the playoffs, you got to be a team like this. Their defense just allowed 35.2 points per season last year over the final nine games of 2025. If Jayden is healthy and the commanders are a playoff caliber team, this is where that quarterback superiority that you just quite frankly have over the Arizona Cardinals has to matter. And it's also the start of a part of the schedule where the watch commanders can make a lot of room. Arizona, Tennessee, Houston, Atlanta, three and one there. And boy, you got you got a chance. Remember, go back to that by we right here. Four and two heading in the buy. You go three and one here. I mean, that's seven and three minimum.
Now there's some games between there, right? But that's seven and three record. Like now you're starting to get in that momentum a little bit. Lose Arizona. And yeah, man, like you got to go beat Houston. You know, Houston, I know they're not like the top day of C South anymore. But like they're still good team. Really good defense out there. Right? So you got to do that kind of stuff. I know they're home, you know, it's a home game for Washington, but get the drift, right? Fourth game, you got to win. Washington at Tennessee. This is where a good team will separate themselves from an up and coming team. Because they do think the Tennessee Titans are up and coming. I think they're more coming like as far as the future is concerned than they are up. Second straight road game, potential, emotional let down opportunity. You beat Arizona, you feel good about yourself going to Tennessee, get your blood kicked, right? Tennessee Titans also coming off a three win season. They're projected to projected to win more games in the car. And those roughly about six, they got a 9.6% playoff probability. So still low enough that you got to make good on this opportunity. The defense of front in Tennessee is legit outside of that. Not a whole lot, right? And again, you don't get to wind about Jeffrey Simmons playing against your team. If you're going to be a playoff team, you got the better quarterback.
Go get the win week five or game five, sorry, week 15 Falcons coming to Washington. Yes. Once again, the Atlanta Falcons, the Washington Commanders find a way to land on each other's schedule. I know I'm annoyed by it. I'm sure you're annoyed by it. It is what it is Atlanta though. They may not be terrible. I kind of want to lean that they're going to be terrible because the quarterback situations of mess, they're coaching situations of mess, but they are projected to win seven or eight games this season. The most of any team on this list, they got a 31.7% playoff probability even with two and talking about Lola at quarterback and their NFC. So it's important. So it's not just one win, right? It's not just a commander's win. It's also a conference win. And you also hand the Falcons a loss and Washington then owns the head to head. If for some reason, the Falcons are coming close in the wild card standings. I know it's kind of wild. Talk about the Falcons and the wild card standings, but you never know. This is a two team, two team swing game for the Washington Commanders. So it's much more valuable than beating the Colts. Even though that game has a lot more eyes on it because international and it's in London and all that kind of stuff.
Notice, we gave T.A. is Dallas not there because if you're telling me in September that the Commanders have to beat the Dallas Cowboys in week 18, there's already something going wrong, right? If Dallas is a must win January 9th or 10th, we'll deal with that bridge when we get there. But the goal is that having arrived to week 18 where we gave team is a seating situation, not a playoff situation, not a survival situation. Last year, the Green Bay Packers got into the NFC wild card round at 9.7 and 1. Don't want to play around 9 wins, but you have to 10 wins. That's a clean target. Win these five games and you are halfway to hitting that 10 win mark. Next up 2024 was not magic, but it was magical. And it can be created, recreated with a winning formula, getting quarterbacks to ability, offensive answers, a survivable defense and neutral at least neutral possession football. That's coming to next on today's episode of Lockdown Commanders, part of the Lockdown Podcast that worked your team every day.

Taze up so it's also brought to you and part by Calishe before the season even kicks off. Everyone is making predictions on the college exchange. The Washington Commanders are currently trading at 26% to qualify for the playoffs this season. We just talked about the path to get there right when those five games, you only need five more. You get yourself a win, split the Cowboys, split the Eagles and you know, you're well on your way. It's getting to that mark 26% right now on Calishe is where the commanders are trading for making the playoffs a $100 trade at this price right now would pay out $384 if they make the playoffs on Calishe trading its peers in the live market. 2024 was magical, but it wasn't magic. It was real life. It actually happened Washington won because it combined in elite offense where they serve viable defense and mostly neutral possession football, which means turnover margin, you know, zero or whatever. They figured finish the season plus one. All three of those things collapsed in 2025. There's a legitimate reason though all three of those things could return in 2026. Thanks again for tuning into today's episode of locks on commanders and thanks for heading over to WSA 9.com where you can also find my written work covering your Washington commanders wrapping up are five for five for five series episode here today. Five reasons to believe 2026 could be magical. Just like 2024. This isn't James back. So why not? That's not what we're talking about here, right? Jane obviously is a very big part of this, but as we talked about in the beginning of the episode, a lot of the impedance here is taking the need for Jaden to be magical off the table. The largest difference between 2024 and 2025, however, is Jane Daniels. It just is Jaden down right?
He started all 17 games in 2024 started just seven in 2025. That's not a footnote. That's not an old by the way. That is a direct comparison and that is the comparison of this wash man's team. Over 28.5 points per game to 20.9. It just shows you at least in part because he wasn't alone, Terry and obviously, you know, others, but it shows you at least in part how important number five really is to those wash man's team. Since entering the league, Jaden Daniels has actually been one of the NFL's better passers against pressure. And despite the fact that he faces the most pressure of almost anybody in the league. So we're not asking a failed quarterback from 2025 to become a better 2024 version. We're just asking Jaden Daniels to be Jaden Daniels. And I'm telling you right now, if we're training camp, he's actually a better version of Jaden Daniels. He's asking to be that guy and then you're asking the offense to keep him healthy by taking the game off his legs and you're asking the defense to just be average, be average. If you can be better, which I think this defense could be better. I'm telling you right now, but if you can be better, great, but if not, just be average, right? Number two, Washington gets the schematic unknown back.
There's a second reason to be excited for 2026. This is a part that I think gets mixed, mixed, mixed a little bit right now all the time, a little bit part of 2024's magic was its unpredictability. Nobody had NFL tape on Jaden Dan, Jaden tape on Cliff Kingsbury, but you didn't have tape on Jaden in Cliff Kingsbury's offense by 2025. Everybody had tape in the opponents found ways to disrupt the no huddle offense. They found ways to diagnose everything. It was just a mess right now. David Blogg is to change the picture, but he's got the same quarterback. You got Huddles, understand, or you got different run game presentations, play action, more movement, similar concepts. Even to what we saw from Cliff Kingsbury, but you're getting them from different looks. That is the 2024 parallel. It's not the scheme per se. It's the uncertainty, which is more the system than it is the scheme defenses again. They got to figure out what the Washington commanders are doing. They got to figure out an answer for that and they don't get to start doing that really until September. They don't get all off season to rehearse against this offense. And look, that's going to be a top of conversation. 10 to 2027. But right now we're only worried about 2026.
Third reason, third reason to be excited about 2026. The passing offense has more answers than the 2024 version did. And that's just easy to see. Terry McClorene is back. Thousand ninety six yards. Last time he was fully healthy after him. Zach Hertz had 654. OZ, Alameda Zacchaeus at 506. Noah Brown had 453. This 2026 version starts with McClorene. But again, last time healthy, thousand yard season. So fond digs, last time healthy, thousand yard season. Check it. Conquo caught 50 passes in his last three seasons. Consecute of Antonio Williams has been looking like a stud. The army brown with that deep stuff. Jalen Lane, complimentary group, all this other stuff. Doesn't mean there's automatically going to be a better offense. But it does mean that there is a credible argument here. And Jaden Danes entering 2026 with more passing game answers than he has ever in his entire NFL career. And that is significant because I also think Jaden Daniels is going to be your comeback player of the year in 2026. What's the number four to be excited about the 2026 season the way you were 2024? The defense doesn't need to be great. They just got to be better in 2025.
And that is not hard to do. And you get back. And I think this is honestly the strongest point we can make here in this episode. 2024, this defense, watch commanders defense, you're saying not this defense, but the commander's defense. Eighteenth and points allowed. 13th and yards allowed. 30th and rushing yards allowed. That's not great. That's about as average as you can get overall. 2025, 30 second just just just terrible or sorry, that was 2025. 2024, 2025. Let me get myself on track here. 27th and points, 30 second and total yards, 31st and net yards. Terrible. 2026 does not need to be going from 30 second place to fifth place. So we have talked about this Brian Flores has actually taken defenses from like bottom of the league to top of the league in one off season. Dorontae Jones comes from that tree. Doesn't mean he's going to bring the same fruit. I like Dorontae and I like what he's doing. Like I'm not saying it won't be done. I'm not saying it can't be done. I'm just saying all you need is 18th man. Like all you need is average just be an average defense and there's reason to do it.
Right. There's not blind optimism here. Oh, wait, chase Charles and many who styles Leo Chanel Nick Cross me, Robertson, for stool Douglas. All these guys, they were brought here to be part of the fast, multiple pressure driven defense that Dorontae Jones is putting together. And finally, the fifth reason to be excited for 2026, the possession of math, Washington had 16 giveaways in 2024, 17 takeaways, plus one, not great, not great, but that that formula got you to play offs, got to the MC championship game. Ultimately, that doesn't that plus one doesn't count the post season, but it is what is 2025 23 giveaways, 10 takeaways, minus 13. Not going to work like just just bottom line, not going to work. It's about competence. We talked about this a little bit before, right? You got to got to get out there, got to get the ball washing scored on half of its offensive drives in 2024 and 2025. They scored on 37%. Giving away 23 possessions is a big part of that drop. The offense, the turnover rate increased from 8%, 12.7% and then takeaway rate dropped
just as much. We only need to see magic. We just need possessions that counts and possessions that count back to at least neutral. Do you get better than that? Hey, that's the, that's a cherry on top. Right. Fewer backup quarterback possessions by keeping Jane Danes healthy, more defensive takeaways, more short fields, more drives finishing with Jaden holding the football instead of watching from the sideline suddenly 5 and 12 is not a mythical transformation to 9 and 8 or 10 and 7 or 11 and 6. It's very reasonable. I'm not saying the commander's about to go 12 and 5, although that would be a lot of fun because there's a lot of fun last time. The offensive line has questions. Larry Tonsel's torn tricep could cost them all year. Brandon Coleman's back to left tackle. The interiors moving around in the Gallagherty is dealing with his cap situation. There are some questions about this wash man's team, but winning more than seven games, that is absolutely doable and there is credible path to all of this. I think the burden getting past just Jaden just distributed distributed around everybody will help washing get 10 wins to get those 10 wins again. You can't waste any opportunities against likes of the giants, the cardinals, the Falcons,
etc. But they don't need a miracle season. They just need to show everyone that those miracles in 2024 were manufactured. They weren't blessings from above. They were manufactured 2025 was manufactured as well in the opposite direction. The commanders need to stop recreating conditions that made 2025 a disaster. That will allow that 2024 feeling to come back to life. I appreciate you coming through for today's episode.
