東郷 平八郎（とうごう へいはちろう、弘化4年12月22日（1848年1月27日） – 昭和9年（1934年）5月30日）は、日本の幕末から明治時代の薩摩藩士、軍人。
勝敗は平素の準備にあり。一勝に油断したものは次ぎの戦いでは直ちに負ける。軍隊は平時には訓練ばかりをしている。その訓練の質がいざというときの勝敗を決める。大事なのは平時なのだ。
