2:10that you need to know. I'm Rob Statz Carrera. Today is Friday, March 6th, 2026. Here's what's happening with your San Francisco 49ers. Kyle Shanahan is not going to announce the full coaching staff for this year until the owner's meetings at the end of the month, but we did get a couple of additions yesterday. First, according to Tom Pelicero of NFL Media, Matt Iberfluse is joining the staff as the team's assistant head coach of defense. He feels the role vacated by Gus Bradley, who of course followed Robert Sala to Tennessee. Iberfluse was the Cowboys defensive coordinator last year, and I know I know what you're thinking. The Cowboys defense was buns last year, and that is very true. But that's why it's a very good thing that Iberfluse won't be coordinating the defense Raheem Morris will. The question is, what exactly is Iberfluse going to be doing? Well, we don't know for sure, but he does have extensive history as a linebacker's coach. And remember, the 49ers traditionally have liked defensive coordinators with linebacker experience,

3:13Raheem Morris doesn't have that. He's got experience in the secondary. So maybe Iberfluse can help in that area. Not only did he coach the position for years in college, he also spent nine years in the NFL as a linebacker's coach before becoming a defensive coordinator. And he actually has some success stories in that area. He helps Sean Lee become an all pro with the Cowboys in 2016. And he was a defensive coordinator of the Colts when Shaq Leonard was an all pro and one defensive rookie of the year in 2018. Again, none of this has been reported. That's me speculating, but I'm just trying to connect some dots here. He could also potentially be seen as insurance in case Raheem Morris leaves the team for a head coaching position after the year. Although, again, that's speculation. In addition to Matt Iberfluse, the team also made another higher to the coaching staff. Come on down Kent State offensive line coach Angel Moutute. And I apologize if I mispronounced the name, I couldn't find a pronunciation guide anywhere, but that is the higher.

4:14His role with the team has not exactly been specified, but remember Chris Forester lost his assistant offensive line coach Cam Clemens, who was promoted to tight ends coach. So you would think that Moutute would fill in that role. Moutute actually does have some 49ers ties. He began his coaching career as an offensive assistant with the University of Missouri in 2021. And he participated in the 49ers Bill Walsh NFL diversity coaching fellowship in 2024 before serving as an offensive analyst and assistant offensive line coach at Purdue. He joined Kent State last year. So if you are keeping track at home, and I know that you are, the 49ers new coaches this season so far that we know of are Moutute assistant head coach Matt Iberfluse tight ends coach Cam Clemens and defensive backs coach Jerry Gray.
