49ers Eyeing Brown for Secondary Boost

The San Francisco 49ers head into the offseason with most of their cornerback set to return, except for Chase Lucas, who's hitting restricted. Free agency. The team has poured resources into the position lately, locking up the Amador-Lenoire with a big extension and drafting Renardo Green in the second. Round plus upped and stout in the third. Earlier this week, reports surface that the 49ers could target Jacksonville Jaguar's cornerback, Montereg Brown, if he becomes available in free agency. At 26 years old, Brown brings solid experience after four NFL seasons. Brown started Arkansas, earning all Southeast conference honors in his senior year, before the Jaguars grabbed him in the seventh round, too. 120 second overall, back in 2022. He's played in 52 games, starting 29 with 166 tackles, 24 passes defended, and three picks.

Brown could command around $9.2 million a year, and he might line up as a starter opposite Lenoire, especially after Green saw some. Bench time, late in the season. For now, the 49ers seem poised to bolster their secondary through free agency if the price is right, keeping their defense competitive heading into next year.
