49ers Add Kicking Depth with Jaffer Murphy

They've added receivers, Mike Evans and Christian Kirk and brought back kicker Eddie Pinero on a multi-year deal to handle field goals and extra points. Earlier this week, a standout pro-day performance caught their eye. University of Texas as San Antonio kicker, Jaffa Murphy, nailed a 70-yard field goal, ran a 4.47 in the 40-yard dash, and made 12 out of 13 kicks overall. Over a dozen teams chatted with Murphy and the 49ers were there watching closely. Even with Pinero locked in, they see potential in him as a depth piece or practice squad option. Murphy's college stats give some pause though. Last season, he only attempted one kick, a successful extra point, while mostly managing kickoffs for the roadrunners.
