明菴栄西（みょうあん えいさい/ようさい、永治元年4月20日（1141年5月27日） – 建保3年7月5日（1215年8月1日））は、平安時代末期から鎌倉時代初期の僧。臨済宗の開祖、建仁寺の開山。天台密教葉上流の流祖。
人間の心は世界よりも広く、歴史よりも大きい。その心は小さな肉体の脳の中に存在する。栄西が800年以上前に喝破したように、心は不思議な世界だ。場所も形もあきらかではなく、機能もよくわからない。心、精神、意識の存在の秘密は、いなまお解けていない。
