Tonight, baseball on the way, and then I believe the chickster, Chick Ludwig, after the game with an abbreviated Kelsey Chevrolet extra-ending show. Tomorrow, the Joe Nuxole Miracle League feels kick off the spring season in style, the annual opening day parade tomorrow morning 10 a.m.

3:04Let's get details on that from our good friend, the executive director of it all that would be Tyler Bradshaw. Tyler, my first question would be, is there an arc entered in the parade tomorrow? No, but that's a darn good idea. Gosh, we should have had one. We're keeping an eye on the weather reports, and there's really not much else we can do other than watch it and wait. But we're hopeful that the rain holds off for the parade tomorrow, because this is a special day that all of our special needs athletes and families look forward to. So if any of your listeners out there are praying people or have connections with powers up above or meteorologists have them say a few good words for us. No doubt, no doubt. Let's lay out the landscape. Who is in this and kind of chart the path and what time it all gets started? Yeah, we'll start lining up our parade at Sacred Heart Church in Fairfield, and then it winds its way on about a mile and a half or out primarily down Mississippi Drive in Fairfield heading to the Joanuxole Miracle League feels.

4:10And the star of the show, that would be our 250 to 300 special needs athletes, both youth and adults that walk in the parade alongside their families. It's just a spectacle to the hold, like every year you think the magic of it might wear off, and it just doesn't. There's something about seeing these families walking and being cheered on by neighbors, some people they know, but a lot of people they probably don't know, just cheering for them because they love what they represent and what they stand for. So alongside our special needs athletes, we'll have mascots, Mr. Redleck is going to be there. Joey, the can do kangaroo or friends from furniture fair are going to be be joining us. We've got the vintage ball players, the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings and Fairfield High School's marching band will be there. So lots of lots of great excitement and energy and just a perfect way for us to kick off a new season. Tyler, I had the honor, the pleasure of being the grand marshal last year, I got to ride it in a truck that was raised up.

5:10I might have been 12 feet up off the ground and it was a really cool experience. Who gets the grand marshal experience this year? This year, that would be our friends Larry and Debbie Hamley. Many people know Larry from his time as a meteorologist during Cincinnati and after his TV days, he moved behind the camera. Larry and his wife, they've been videographers for years with their own company, Little Brown Dog Productions. But we get so many comments all the time about how your videos are just so emotional and so powerful and they tell such a great story. That's all Larry and Debbie, they have poured their hearts into our mission from the start and it's personal for them. They have a son, a tea Larry who plays in our adult league. He was actually one of our athletes who crushed a homer last year over in Pittsburgh when we took the players on the road to Sean Casey's facility. And Larry and Debbie have just helped us really tell our stories in ways that we absolutely could not without them. We would not have the reach that we have had it not been for them coming alongside us to help out.

6:15They're getting ready to retire. They're actually going to be stepping back a little bit here over the next year and we wanted to take some time to celebrate them and that last leg of the professional race and let them know how much they mean to us. Tyler, the thing that really stood out to me last year, having the experience of being in the parade and traveling through the neighborhood, the number of neighbors, people, the community aspect of, they would open up their front door and stand on the porch and wave. They would stop what they were doing in their driveway, turn and wave. They'd sit on the curb and wave. Now the community is such a rally to this to to be a part of it. It's really cool. Yeah, we have to give. I mean, there's so many community groups that are involved in making a parade like this happen. I tell you, from the moment we have started doing this, those folks along Mississippi Drive and Fairfield shout out to them because they have just made us feel so special and so celebrated. As you mentioned, they're lined up on the curbs in big groups. Sometimes they're in smaller groups. I love the people.

7:18There's a couple houses where they have morning tailgates waiting for this thing. They'll have a fire going in a pit depending on what the weather is and you can tell everybody's got breakfast and all kinds of stuff. And they've been out there for a while. That's just such a special feeling to be a part of a parade is something. I mean, Joe always loved the pick at opening day parade and to be able to translate that feeling to special needs athletes who, you know, sadly, sometimes they don't always get the line right. They don't always they're not always front and center in the fact that for this parade and for every play out of the Joe Nuxole Miracle League fields, we can we can put them in the spotlight. We can shine the light on the good they're doing. It's just there. There's just nothing better. Tomorrow's the opening day parade part of this. Go back through the numbers of how many play and when does the season actually start? Yeah, so the parade is enough for us tomorrow. We do the parade and we say, all right, we'll start playing next week.

8:18So our youth league, we have 150 athletes in our youth league and they'll be playing on Friday or I'm sorry on Saturday mornings starting next week. So April 25 will be their first day in the games are at 9 10 15 and 11 30 and then our adult league plays on Friday nights all throughout the summer. They'll kick off on I believe it's May 1st that Friday night and they play games at 6 and 7 40 and for folks who haven't come out just come experience a game. They are wildly different experiences, which I love the youth league. You know, everybody bats everybody runs around the bases everybody scores the adult league is competitive. They keep score. They call balls and strike many of the players. You can go up to them after the game and say, how'd you do tonight? They know they went two for three with a double and then a base knock. I mean, they're just they're really into it. So for folks who have not come out once once we get through the parade and the season starts, you got to come out and check out a game because it's just an amazing experience.

9:19What put some perspective here? What does an hour on a Saturday morning mean to those families, the parents time? Yeah, that's the question that I think keeps all of us or at least the answer does that's what keeps all of us coming back all of our volunteers who come out and dedicate their lives to this because for these families, and it's hard not to get emotional, but so many of them from the moment their child was born, whether it is explicitly told to them by someone or sometimes it's just in their mind, right? They have all these expectations. We all do as parents. What we want our kids to do. We want them to play baseball. We want them to be on a team. We want them to experience travel sports and that sort of thing. And for those parents who have children born with disabilities, whether it's physical disabilities or developmental disabilities, that that dream gets gets ripped away from them.

10:21But the thing I love about the parade about the miracle week feels those hours spent out of the fields is we can give them that dream back. We can automatically say, hey, all those things that you wanted your child to have the opportunity to do, they're going to be able to do it and they're going to be able to do it in a big way. And you know, Lance, the other thing too is that for those parents, we hear from them time and time again that the community that is built there at the miracle week feels is what sustains them in those kind of dark nights of the soul, right? When you're you've been taking care of somebody and it's tough work. It's not easy. I mean raising children is a is a feat in and of itself to raise a child with a disability. There's so much more that goes into that so much that is required. And for those parents, they can come out and we hear them say it all the time they say, we don't have to explain ourselves to anybody because everybody else gets it. Everybody else is doing the same thing we are. That that community that's built in and we we honestly hope for for many of those parents, it's an opportunity for them to sit in the stands to relax, to just watch their child and cheer for them because that's something every parent should have the opportunity to do in life.

11:34If we can give that to them one hour a week every time they come out to the fields, mission accomplished for us. So well said man. All right. Last question then re-racket what time and where do they need to be if they want to support and watch the really cool experience of the opening day parade for the Joe Nuxall miracle like fields? Yeah, so we'll start lining up all of our parade participants down at Sacred Heart Church around 915 and then the parade will step off at 10 o'clock. Some great places to watch if folks are coming down. There's a corner turn from Mississippi Drive on the Grot Lane where the water works park and the youth baseball league takes place. That's a great place to kind of sit and watch as we make the turn or you can just go down to the parking lot at the Joe Nuxall miracle league fields. We always have lots of people who camp out there and kind of welcome everybody as they come into the parking lot. And then after that we'll do a quick on field ceremony recognize Larry and Debbie Hanley and then we'll introduce all of our all star so folks can get their names down and then come back the following weekend and start cheering for them.
