3934 Quit Waiting for a Guarantee

About this episode

Life doesn't hand out guarantees. No matter how much you want a smooth ride or a sure win, it simply doesn't work that way. Success, growth, and reaching your goals come from one thing above all else—intention. How you think, decide, and act every single day shapes whether you make it across the finish line. So quit waiting for a guarantee.

When you're chasing something brand new—whether it's launching a business, changing careers, or mastering a skill—there's no autopilot.

Waiting for the perfect moment or wishing for a guarantee is a fast track to nowhere. Instead, you have to get sharp and stay intentional. Every thought you entertain, every decision you make, every move you take must be purposeful. This isn't about luck or magic; it's about deliberately building momentum one step at a time.

Intentionality is not only about doing the big, sexy moves. It's downright tempting to just focus on the hard stuff, but it's the consistent grind of doing the easy stuff that builds your resilience and drive.

Showing up daily and choosing actions that align with your goal—even when motivation dips—is what separates finishers from quitters.

The K.I.S.S. ~ Quit waiting for a guarantee!

Think of it like building muscle. You don't add pounds overnight; you start with manageable reps and grow stronger over time. Also, your mental strength and determination develop through regular practice of intentionality.

This consistent practice trains your mind to keep pushing forward when the path gets rough and the results aren't instant.

Quit waiting for a guarantee because there isn't one. Instead, get clear on what you want and commit to being intentional every day.

Control your thoughts, make wise choices, and stay relentless in your actions. When setbacks come (and they will), rely on the muscle you built through steady intentionality.

Keep going, keep learning, and don't stop doing the easy stuff that builds your foundation.

No one crosses the finish line without putting in the work—without being intentional. Your results won't be handed to you. They'll be earned, one deliberate step at a time.

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"

1:00You're in for a ride. Are you ready? Because you have already decided what you want for the new year. You're already making plans, new dreams, new goals, new habits. You want to read more. You want to lose weight. You want to have a better marriage. You want to have kids that are thriving. So you want to be a better parent. You want to show up for your community like you never have. You want to start a business. Where are you and all of that? I know. Take a deep breath. It's a lot, isn't it? I know because that's what life is. Life is a lot. But there's something else that we tend to forget. Life doesn't hand out guarantees. No matter how much you want a smooth ride or a sure win, it simply doesn't work that way. Success, growth, and reaching your goals. It all comes from one thing above all else. Intention. How do you think? How do you decide? Even how you act, right? Every single day, it shapes whether you make it across the finish line. So quit waiting for a guarantee.

2:03Because I think what happens, and you can disagree with me. It's not a problem. But as I look into the new year, and I got to tell you right now, I'm exhausted. I've been coming off of about a four to five day stretch of going at hyper speed. I kid you not. If you listen to yesterday's episode, and regarding grief, you heard me share that we had to say goodbye to our English bulldog of 12 and a half years right now. And there are moments that I'm doing great. And then there are moments I am a mess. And then there are moments I'm doing great. I come home, and the first thing I say is, I'm back. Mom is home. And then he perks up like, oh, okay. And if he's feeling good, I'll stand up. Maybe walk over to me. If he's not, he just lays there waiting for me to come to him. Well, that first time I walked into the door, it was hard because he wasn't there.

3:05Yet I still wanted to greet him. When I woke up that next morning, I wanted to greet him. You see, when we want to go after something we think we should have, right? Whether it is like, for example, you know, I'm talking about Rhino, which has nothing to do with this directly, but indirectly it does. So hang in there with me. But you see, we want something more out of life. But life doesn't say it's all going to be rainbows and roses. You don't get everything you want. It's not guaranteed. In fact, honestly, you are going to have more failures. If you're really working and trying, you are going to fail. But who's talking about that around the new year? Nobody? And you're like, Christian, you're supposed to pick me up here. It's inspiration. It's motivation. Come on, encourage me. Pick me up. No, no, no, no. I'm going to encourage you by telling you the truth. You want something different than where you are right now. Whatever that is, think about that. But if you want to go somewhere, when you're chasing something brand new,

4:06whether it's launching a business, changing careers, mastering a skill, whatever it is, there's no autopilot. None. Waiting for that perfect moment or wishing for a guarantee is this fast track to nowhere. Seriously. So instead, you have to get sharp and stay intentional. Every thought you entertain, every decision you make, every move you take, must be purposeful. And this isn't about luck or magic. It's about deliberately building momentum one step at a time, one step at a time leads to miles of greatness. But you see what we think is greatness means that everything's going right and that is not what it means. Miles of greatness is the sum of your failures, the lessons along the way, and the few successes you have. That equals your miles of greatness. You see, over these last four to five days, it's been hard. Moving a child out, he's starting his brand new career

5:07to another state, a place where he knows only a few people called family. But he's now no longer with mom and dad. And that doesn't make me sad, but it's a new season. Not having right now anymore is a new season. But see, as we look at new seasons, we can't sit back and be like, okay, this is going to happen. Life's just going to happen. It's going to be great. There's no luck or magic about it. Intentionality is not only about doing the big sexy moves, right going, look at me, look, look, I've arrived. Come on, pay attention. It's downright tempting to just focus on the hard stuff, which yes is important, but it's a consistent grind of doing the easy stuff that builds your resilience and drive. So back to my four to five day stretch, my emotional roller coaster, saying goodbye to my puppy dog, wishing my son the very, very best,

6:10looking at changing things around and moving and selling our home. There's a lot of moving parts right now, dealing with personal issues, looking at my health, right? We have all of these things. And the problem is is none of it's going to work out perfect unless of what I start doing something about it. And even then it's not going to be perfect. Because life just doesn't happen. You have to be intentional. You have to show up daily and choose actions that align with your goal. Even when motivation dips, it's what separates finishers from quitters. So after coming home to a very quiet home, not having to take care of an animal, I don't know in how many decades. Seriously, I've had animals for, I think actually as long as we've been married and even before then. I don't know what it's like not to care for someone littleer than me, be it a child or an animal. And now all of a sudden,

7:11I've moved on one and lost another. But I still have to show up here for you. I have to show up here for me. You know, daily podcasting, it's not all what it's cracked up to be. Some people are like, oh, it's got to be so fun. But if you really think about it, all my writing, all my thinking, all of this every single day, and it's fresh, why? Because I want you to show up for your life. And if I'm not showing up for you, then how can I ask you to do the same for your own life? No, that doesn't make sense. If I'm talking about something, I'm trying to live it out the best that I know how. Oh, I fail miserably a lot. But I also succeed too. And then I learn how to do things in between. Intentionality, quit waiting for a guarantee. Because it's like building muscle. Right? As we get older, you got to build muscle. If you want to live out your dream, if you have goals to meet,

8:13you got to build muscle. You don't add those pounds overnight, even though it feels like we do. You start with manageable reps, and you grow stronger over time. And that mental strength of yours and determination, it's developed through regular practice of intentionality. You getting up saying, I am going to do this. Meet getting here to the mic saying, I am going to do this even though, I don't think I've slept more than 12 hours in the past four to five days. Yeah, when I say I'm exhausted, and I've traveled five or six states, and I'm traveling again here in the next few days, I'm like, how can I keep bringing the candle up both in? So when I finally get home, and I want to record an episode just for your ears to hear, because I do pray for you every day. Some of you I know personally, others I know 1,000% that God knows you. And he knows right where you are. And you're getting exactly what you're supposed to get out of this episode. Not because of me, but because of God speaking through me,

9:15and why I showed up. It's not my strength, it's God's strength, but it's my practice, my intentionality. Where do you want your dreams to go for you this year? Where do you want your goals? Where do you want to be met? This consistent practice changed your mind to keep pushing forward when the path gets rough, and the results aren't instant. Because let me tell you, you get tired. You don't want to do this anymore. You want to pause. I'm going to tell you right now, there's no time for a pause. But there is time for a rest. And you need to be intentional in that. A pause is like saying, I give up, I just don't want to do this right now. But a rest period, a time where you say, I'm going to go and rest my body. I'm going to go to bed early. I'm going to go to bed early. You better believe it. That's been intentional.

10:16So quit waiting for a guarantee because there isn't one. Instead, get clear on what you want and commit to being intentional every day. One step at a time needs to miles of greatness and even if it's a failure for a moment, it's a lesson learned the next. And then eventually, you repeat that enough and you see what roses and rainbows. And then when there's a failure, maybe you have a few weeds. You clean up your garden and you continue through. Control your thoughts, make wise choices and stay relentless in your actions. And when setbacks come and you know they will, rely on the muscle you built through steady intentionality. Keep going, my friend. Keep learning and don't stop doing the easy stuff that builds your foundation. You see after coming home from this long tour of moving a loss

11:17and it's just just everything. I mean, I could go on and on and on. And I won't because honestly, this is not about me, right? We're here about you. But it's really about living and being a living legacy. You shouldn't wonder, gosh, what am I going to leave behind when I leave this earth? What are you leaving now? If you go shopping late at night, I had to go shopping late at night with my son the other day moving him. We always forget something, right? So we want to make sure we have the top essentials. It's like the priority of the priority of the priority. And then it's like, okay, in another week or so, we can get the priority of the priority. And then we can go to the priority list, right? So we have like the top three priority lists. And then we get down to when we get to it. That's fine. Even if it's in the next six months, no big deal. But we were there. We were probably about 20 minutes from the store closing. We didn't quite close the store down, but we were getting close. Even though you're tired, even though you've worked for about 20 hours already,

12:21you're still leaving a legacy. When you check out at the register, not because there's a robot watching you in a camera scene, if you're scanning everything right, but because you see somebody who's working there and you smile or you don't. You see somebody else who is in the aisle and they're looking for something and you stop and you say, can I help you with something even though you don't work there? Kindness and intentionality goes a long way. And I think when we look at our New Year's resolutions, thinking, okay, I'm pumped. I'm ready to do this. And maybe you've been great for five days. This is day six fabulous. What happens when you hit the 12, 13, and 14 day? Is that when your motivation is going to waver? Uh-uh, keep going. No one crosses the finish line without putting in the work, without being intentional. That's what you need is intentionality.

13:24So I want you to be encouraged today, not because of me, but because of who you are and who you are becoming. God is masterfully creating you. He sees where you're headed, but let me tell you, you have to do the work. That's why we have free will. And so when the going gets tough, guess what, keep going. Even though I'm tired after four to five days of craziness, it's a party every day. Guess what? I'm still here with you because my friends, you matter. Don't give up on your dream. Don't give up on yourself. Don't sit there and say, well, if I don't make it to here, I'm just going to stop. No, no, no, that's why you keep going. On my drive back home, I was sitting here going through my priority list, not for my son, but for me. And I was sitting here going, okay, what do I need to do first?

14:25Because great your now has got a lot of things happening. And I was thinking on the business aspects, even though I don't really consider this business, this is an extension of my family. Actually, I consider it extension of my heart. I genuinely mean that. And if you know me personally, you know exactly what I mean. And pretty soon, everyone will have the opportunity to get to know me face to face when we have our PJ parties with Jesus. When we go and we open up aim, it's going to be pretty incredible. I'm excited, I'm nervous too. I've got to be honest with you. But you know what? I'm probably going to mess something up. I'm probably going to hit the wrong button. I may even play the wrong music. I don't know. I may stumble over my words, but guess what? It's not about me. It's about who you are and who you are becoming. And God's going to meet you there. But we have to be intentional. We have to be willing to put in that work. Your results will not be handed to you. They're not. You're going to earn them one step at a time.

15:28Because remember, one step at a time leads to miles of greatness. Go in peace, be present, be incredible, be you. I love you so very much. I cannot wait to see you on the other side. Blessing tags and lots and lots of love. We'll talk to you real soon. Have a glorious blessed day. And again, happy new year. Bye-bye.
