Refinery Life Radio — 365 Daily Devotions Day 68: Jacob’s New Name. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
Good morning Ecclesia. Welcome to day 68 and 365 daily devotions are journey through the Bible. 68 days. Well done. That's incredible. Let me encourage you to be sharing these devotions with your friends. Let me encourage you to be giving us some feedback. If you're watching them and you're enjoying them, let us know. If you're not enjoying them, let us know. Today we're going to talk about Jacob's new name. The scripture we're looking at is Genesis 32-28. It says, then he said, your name shall no longer be called Jacob. But Israel, for you are struggled with God and with men and have prevailed. Wouldn't that be good? We get to be known as whatever our given name is and the goal is to become a son or a daughter of God.
How are we going with that? God transforms us through struggle. I see way too many people who call themselves Christian give up as soon as things get a little bit hard. We're going to stop doing that. We want to call ourselves a Christian, get ready for struggle. Get ready for some tough times and stand firm on his word. Our trials produce spiritual strength. Our trials produce renewed identity in him. Because that is our identity. Many people say to me, but you get to do all these things in Asia and you get to preach the gospel all over the world. But my identity is not in my job. My identity is as a follower of Christ. My identity is as a son of God. And I pray that all of us can say the same thing. Because our identity is in him. And if it's not, it needs to be renewed.
Let's pray. Lord shape our character and give us strength to overcome life challenges with your help. It's in Jesus' name that we pray. Amen. If you've heard me of our good friend Dr. Bruce Allen's teaching, we know that name is character. So what's your name today? I want to encourage you, be diligent with your Bible study time. Look for the answers that you're seeking in his word. And get out there and share the gospel with someone because you've been redeemed and our God is a redeemer. He wants to make people whole, spirit, soul and body, but we have to get out there and share his word because he's coming back soon. And until tomorrow, stay in the blessings.
