Hey Thompson, it's forward on the Buffalo Etappa. And Sauroli turns it over high slot. Hold scores. What a goal that was. Zach Mensa with some magic for the Buffalo Sabers who have put up five on the lightning. Another winning weekend for the Sabers, outscoring their opponents nine to four over

06consecutive wins against the Panthers and lightning on the road and the sun is shining in downtown Buffalo on a brand new Sabers live week. You know why this is a beautiful day? I know it's a little chilly out there, but if you have a dog and you're going outside or the dog park, they are not going to get mudded and wet and all because everything's frozen. It's perfect. You know, I've experienced that this morning, but yes, it was good. So, empty netters were for winners on Friday as Krebs now has a career best 29 points on the season, extended his point producing ways against Tampa as part of a lopsided six to win on Saturday. Now the real possibility of another winning week could show the standings looking dramatically different by Sunday when the lightning come in to close out back to back this weekend against the Predators and lightning on home ice, but so much happens before then with Vegas here tomorrow and into Pittsburgh on Thursday. Yeah, and so obviously the Sabers are four points back of the Tampa Bay lightning, which are first in the Atlantic division. Tampa has two

09games in hand, but I am it's just great to see that, you know, we've been juggling from the right side of the screen when you look at the standings with the wild card back to the left side and being in that conversation for top three in the Atlantic. Now top two looking at Detroit and Montreal, kind of trailing a little bit, but I think that Tampa Bay is a team that you can get to. Now, I understand Veslevsky was 17 oh and one in his last 18 games. He had a bad one against the Sabers. Kutcherov was just on fire with two points of game more over the last whatever games, but, you know, he didn't look at the part like they had an off night and that's fine, but I think that often the way I look at it now is that the Sabers are forcing other teams into off nights in the way that they're starting the game and the way that they're like Toronto at an off night against Tampa coming back from the break. Well, you know what? Tampa put them in a place right away and then

09it follows that way. So I look at Buffalo putting Tampa in an uncomfortable position to have an off night and to have Veslevsky's struggle and it started. I love that we do, you know, these gold open these recaps because I'm like, oh, yeah, that's right. Dallin at that goal. And Norris had the turn of the wrist and Thompson had a beautiful one and Metsa. I was on the bench practice this morning and I'm Metsa skated by and I was talking to a couple of the trainers. Did you call them smooth operator? No, I did not, but I mentioned it to the trainers. I'm like, how about this guy? You know, he was nicknamed smooth operator after the game by Beck Malenstein. Like, I love that. And they were like, what a goal. Like everybody's talking about it. Which by the way, it was intense at Morning Skate today. Well, Morning Skate at practice. It's an off day. But, you know, Rasmus Dallin will join us in the look. Oh, like if the guys are fully embracing the intense nature of what practice have been since returning from the Olympic break. Well, I mean, you would know this though, like the balance in a situation like this where

12it's about having full energy on game days and to a certain extent limited practice time, whether that's because of travel or just, you know, sometimes brutal nature of the schedule. So how often would you perhaps with how many 22 games remaining have a practice with this kind of intensity the rest of the way? Well, from now until the end of the year, I would think, you know, maybe once a week, right? Like, if the schedule allows it, if it allows it to have that type of intensity. But there's the thing. Like, last week before they left for New Jersey, they were skating at Leacom Harbor Center. They were skating for 40 minutes, having a scrape, and then going for another 30, 35 minutes. I mean, it was well over an hour. You don't often see practices go past 40 minutes now, 35 minutes at this time of year. They were going over an hour and the results were there. So this is the funny thing. I remember when I was in New York with

13the Rangers and tortor Ellis practice stuff or they were hard. They were intense. There was never any breaks. It was go, go, go, go, go for 30, 40 minutes. And then the guys would sit around after a big win and they'd be like, we kind of shut ourselves in the foot here. Because the more we win, the more he's going to push us in practice. And we're going to continue to win like we'd be joking obviously. But that's what it is. I think Linda Ruff is seeing this as an opportunity. So you responded in a positive manner with three wins with how intense practices were. If I have an opportunity, I'm going to keep like leading you down that path. Sabres and Vegas here at Keybank Center tomorrow, six in the NHL today, including an afternoon affair in Nashville, the starts at 2 p.m. Detroit is there. So it's relevant to Buffalo from a stand point as the wings are wild card one right now, Boston is wild card two. And the sabres, of course, are second in the Atlantic division. So these are always things to keep an eye on. Columbus is an action tonight as well against the Rangers. Philadelphia Toronto has now become huge

15because the flyers have picked up points in five of their last six games with a couple of wins heading into the Leafs who have been abysmal since the Olympic break. And that has really hampered their chances. And also worth noting later tonight, Carolina at Seattle as the Canes have a four game Western road trip here. They've been so dynamic with just one regulation loss in the last 18 and Colorado at L.A. where the Kings have a new coach and DJ Smith behind the bench who replaces Jim Hiller. Sabres cannot lose their second place in the Atlantic today because even if Detroit was to win against Nashville this afternoon, they would have a lesser wind percentage or point percentage and the sabres have the more regulation wins anyway. So they cannot fall from second. Now Montreal could fall from third to wild card one. But when the sabres play tomorrow night against Vegas, they will still be in second place regardless of what happens today. So much to get to here on Sabres live on a Monday, including as mentioned,

15Rasmus Dallien's going to join us a little later in the show. What's the one takeaway from the winning weekend in the sunshine state? Oh, um, speed. I think like I looked at the way that they played. They were they were fast. Like, you know, the legs were going against New Jersey on Wednesday. And that was the first thing I noticed. The legs are going. The execution wasn't so much there. Like the hands were a little behind. Puck was bouncing and the passes weren't that crisp. But they they came through with a, you know, a tight win to one in New Jersey. But I felt like the speed was still there on back-to-back games. Friday Saturday and the execution was obviously much better. The tight little plays. The, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, crebs the Thompson. The Thompson, the interchange. Even, you know, the, um, the Norris drive down low when he gets it back to Malinstein, like for the Slab shot for the two one goal against Florida. Um, that to me was big. Maybe, yeah, mom, maybe I should have said you asked me one takeaway was challenge and reviews.

20Oh, well, Marty, this, this leads us to, that may have been the, this leads us to this, that or the other as far as, uh, who had the best outburst this weekend on the opposite side of the Sabers. Was it Paul Marise? Was it his net minor, Daniel Tarisoff or was it John Cooper? I'm going to give Paul Marise the gold medal in that situation from his, you know, diving way down on the bench to looking up to, what did he say again? Fortunate. Fortunate. He said fortunate when he let out a yell. No, he did not. He did not. But that was what I think he said. Anyway, I say Paul Marise, plus with a shirt's collar sticking out of his jacket because he was so disheveled. Yeah, he was missing his collar stays, uh, on Friday, clearly, because they were, they were off all day. They were poking out. That's one. I'm going to go with Tarisoff number two when his quote after the game, basically saying, I don't know what the heck they're smoking up there in Toronto. I'm looking up washers and to see if there's a haze. There's a

25bubble of smoke over the situation room in Toronto. What a quote. Um, you know, I mean, it's a, I, I will say this as a gold tender, I understand, right? Like you're trying to make a save contact happens. You're angry. He had a fantastic, plus he loses the game on an empty net goal. Like the game winning goal is the CREBS empty net. And then the photo painter score again. So that's a tough one. You got to be frustrated. And then John Cooper. Yep. It was, John Cooper was not happy. I didn't think that was a kicking motion from all of your broke strand. The poor guy got bits forked back as his foot flew off the ice going forward. The overhead camera looks like he's kicking it in. But I don't think that's a kicking. I think that's a, your body is going in the natural way when you're being held back like this. And it went the savers way. No big deal. But who at the best outburst, Maurice? Maurice Gold Medal, Teresav Silver and Cooper bronze. But the

26all three ad metal. It leads us unofficially to a new segment that I've dubbed Monday moratorium. I mean, we have Marty features out the wazoo right now on the broadcast on social on the website. So I'm creating my own. And the Monday moratorium is stop saying that your team doesn't get the calls. Please just stop saying that because holy cow, I don't know if you could have had a better weekend getting the calls, earning the calls, benefiting from the calls and winning hockey than what the savers had this week. Have a guess one at the end of the Friday night game. Peyton Cribs has the puck inside his blue line. The icing chips it off the wall all the way down the ice. The one line's been at the far side is starting to skate fast towards the goal line to prepare for the icing. I get it. There's 10 seconds left in the game. But that could give Florida one last shot. Unbelievable. The linesman that was on the short side waves it off. And the whole bench on Florida just erupted. These are not the type of calls that if you're washing at home and you know, at the bar

31and you don't realize, but I'm looking at it. I looked over to you. I'm like, I can't believe they did not call that a nice thing. There's another break. So I agree with you, Duffer, when I think that most teams like Florida is going to say we never get the call. Tampa is going to say we never get the call. Every team in the Nash Ike League says we don't get the call this weekend. Buffalo got the calls. It worked out in their favor. Rasmus Delin coming up Alex Lyne was in the starters and had to practice this morning lines. Look the same as they did in Tampa Bay. We had a pretty good week from an anytime goal scorers. That's what we did. We picked them good, good picks. You had Peyton Cribs on Friday night and Wednesday last week. That's right. You picked them on back-to-back games. And then I had Rasmus Delin on Saturday, which he opened up the scoring to make it one nothing. It was fantastic. Three-point game for him. Defense scoring is dominant across the NHL this year. Probably at a level we haven't seen since the early 90s and Delin is a huge part of that. So how are you feeling with 22 games left? Who's going to win this epic battle between the two of us? Where you narrowly now have once again taken the lead as far as correct picks on anytime goal scorers.

35I don't mind the way this graphic is laid out because I think we can split that gold medal in half. And I have picked more correct, but you have that better value. So I think this would be perfect. We're a duo. So we both have covered. But so again, like when you're looking at you know, Delin and the offense from the defense, they are up to 41 goals as a group now. This season they had 40 all year last year. We had 22 games left and they've already I mean they could get to 50, right? Like I think 50 is sustainable. Absolutely. 50-55 could be right there in the cards for them from the blue line. Yeah. And obviously, you know, we'll dive in a little deeper with with Rasmus on that coming up. No surprise at this point, just what you were saying looking at practice and not expecting any changes and you would know you would expect though like a is it going to be a true rotation in your opinion now?

35From a golden and in lion. I think so. And look, all three of them are put in in the work, right? And Friday is straight deadline day. There could be some paper transactions that happen depending on what the movement is because before Friday 3 p.m. you have to respect the roster limits 23 players to cap and all of that after Friday you can be over the 23 player limit. You just got to be within the cap. So, you know, we may see some adjustment but I do believe that we're going to get Luke and in lion, Luke and in now lion again until like somebody kind of separates themselves a little bit or maybe you're getting the last six seven games and you have to make a decision and prepare for eventual, you know, spring hockey. That's what I'm going to call it. So, yeah, I think there there could be a decision there but right now both of them are playing well and I feel bad for Colton Ellis because when he played, he played really well but right now he

38got an arrow down to a couple and keep going. Right, but as you know, it's also pretty cool to be on an NHL roster all season. It's very cool. It's cool for cool for the paycheck. It's cool for the experience. It's cool for the experience. And you never know. Right. This year was a crazy year for all three of them. They all had to deal with injuries. They all had their moments of playing. They all had their success. Now all three of them are healthy and look, this gotta be the exception to the rule. I have said it many, many times. Three goalies is very hard to work but I do find it that all three of them. They're number one. They're great people. They work really well together. Mike Bills, you know, assistant coach, goalie coaches has found a way to get everybody their work. There has been a lot of players that have been rehabbing and kind of taken part in skates that have helped getting some of the works for the goalies done as well. We're a couple of days closer to Bald for Bucks now after this winning weekend and that takes us back to our end of

40week poll. Yes. What should Marty's haircut be? Hair style, pardon me, be before he goes bald for Bucks. Did you see the end results on this? Yes, I did. And it's a bull cut. Oh, yeah, it is the bull cut. And it's me look more like a dumb and dumb or Jim Carey type of looking because my hair won't be super long. But it was kind of funny that my barber texted me last night. No way, not last night, Saturday night, after the game and he goes, bull cut is going to be really funny. So I don't know that it's going to look exactly like number C, a letter C I should say on this, on this screen right now, but it will definitely have some flair to it. Marty and Dan go on Bald for Bucks the game day for that is March the 28th. And we of course encourage you to get involved because your donation helps terrific cause here in our community. Bald for Bucks donate 50 or more to receive the Bald for Bucks t-shirt. All proceeds benefit Roswell Park comprehensive cancer

40center. And you can make your donation now at sabers.com slash bald for Bucks as Dan in like partner and crime. And this is first contemplating a different hairstyle beforehand. I don't know. I didn't I haven't seen Dan like David. It was the Olympic break. And then they've been on the road. So he was on the show with you. You saw him. I was on zoom. But I didn't like I didn't see him. I didn't talk to him about it. So tomorrow when we are going to say was I being lied to was Dan not on the show. But we had a lot. I had a lot to worry about you did. Sorry that part of that was my fault. It was well. No, it was fine. And it was drink the Olympics. We had a lot going on. But I'll say this when I talk to Dan through. I know he's been growing it. He has been growing it. He hasn't gotten a haircut. He wants it to be. And he wants to do something special. I just don't know what he'll do. So maybe he'll surprise us. Element of surprise. We like that. Absolutely. Quickly because we want to say should we go bald for boxing with his beard? Should we like let him grow the beard and then shave him? He marches to his own drummer. So to his own beat.

43Doesn't even really matter what we say suggest. Think obviously March 28th. Those going to be as usual. Super fun and special night here at Keybank Center. Now one thing about Keybank Center is the increased attendance over this incredible stretch of play for the Sabers over the last three months. So we want to see you in the building. And of course, that's not just this year. It's next year as well. Season ticket memberships are available now. They include playoff priority. Saber store and concession discount exclusive member only events and experiences guaranteed same seat for every game dedicated account manager plus an awful lot more. And you can become a member today by going to sabers.com slash membership. So it's all part of this, you know, season that has seen the Sabers have a 661 home points percentage. They're over 600 now on the road points percentage wise also. And coming off a big win following a huge first period against Tampa on Saturday that was led by the captain, Rasmus Dalin. RAS, great to see you.

46Welcome back. Not only to town here, but post Olympic break. How are you feeling? Feeling good. Nice to get three wins here. So I feel really good. How? I want to say how intense have practices been since you returned because I saw a couple of practices at Harbor Center last week this morning was really intense. Very high tempo. Even some physicality a little bit. So is that a change of pace a little bit in the way you guys are able to practice? Oh, I mean, I want to say Lindev's always wanted to practice hard, but, you know, we have high standards around here now. So practice are hard. And, you know, if we have a workout, all of the guys are doing the workouts and we just have raised the standards, I feel like overall, ultimate takeaway for you from your Olympic experience. It was an awesome experience to be able to play with the best from Sweden. Final touch Swedish.

50I mean, just to play those games, it's special. It's something not a lot of people get to experience. But what about indulging in your country's moments of success as far as medals? Did you have a chance to, you know, watch that, feel it at all or no? Yeah, I mean, in the Olympic Village, we saw a lot of other athletes and we always watched the other events on TV when we had the chance, but we were unable to see any events live, but you can feel it. It's just a special experience. Did you guys have a special place for the Swedish contingency to hang out and was it full with Swedish food and candy and all that stuff? No, so there's a cafeteria with, you know, everybody eats there. It's pasta, it's, you know, the basic stuff. The basic stuff and then, you know, it's basic Italian pasta. Yeah, exactly. Very authentic. So it was nice, it was good. And then it was like, I would

51think it was like five, six level buildings. So we had, I think we had three levels that we were able to hang out like all the athletes. So Swedish candy, you know, some Swedish TV television and it was nice. Cross country skiing in your family at all? No, not at all, but the Swedes are unbelievable at it. Absolutely. The Norwegians are pretty good at it too, like they are especially, let me ask you this, if it wasn't, like if you could pick any event at the Olympics to do, like which one would you say I would like to try that? I'm a competitor, so I think I would have the best chance at Bob's Lid. Just a push. Two men or four. Oh, four. So I'll just be in the middle, though. That's crazy, though. They go like 85 miles an hour and they're like sliding on ice. All right, besides Ossland, name another Swede that you would take with you for the 2030 Olympics.

54Ooh, look as Raymond, or he's saying from Buffalo, can be from Buffalo or maybe someone who wasn't on the team with you yet that you think could have that potential. Okay, okay. I'll pick Rosie. Nice, yeah. Yeah, you know, he's growing every year and he's having a great year. So he'll take steps now. You mentioned Lucas Raymond. Obviously Detroit. You guys are in a battle, Detroit and Montreal. Did you guys discuss that? That race for the playoffs a little bit while you were there in the Olympics? Yeah, you can really sense to that, you know, Sabers are getting more respect around the league and guys are talking about that we're getting better and stuff. So, you know, closer and closer, I think we'll get more trips on. Marty, you were a part of a new feature that was unveiled last week. Did you want to approach that with Rass and talk about your incredible strength and conditioning?

57While you were still in Sweden, well, in Italy, with Sweden, I did a small feature with Brian Galvin, the director of sports performance and he put me through a workout. I struggled. Like, you know, when you have the harness on and you have the the two sticks and you do the squat, it's an 80 squats. Do you know what like what's your level, what your number is when you do those squats? No. Actually, I don't know. So this is me right now, like doing it and I thought this was going to be easy. Like, it was going to be fine. And I could barely get up the first one. And I think I was like, 480 or 500 and he says, Alex duck does over a thousand. Like, I'm struggling to get up with that thing. I think most of the guys are around thousand maybe. Yeah, but, uh, yeah, Takis, he's next level when it comes to that stuff. Do you like Brian was telling me that guys do full workouts sometimes before games after games? What do you like? Do you like to go before games,

58lift a little or do you like more pose games? No, I, uh, the last couple of years I've doing more in the gym. I can't say I hate it, but I don't do, uh, after games because I'm tired. Yeah. I don't have any pop. I like to be fresh when I go in the gym. So every morning after games or pre-game skate and stuff, I got it. I'm trying to get in a full workout. What's your playing weight now? Uh, I think I'm around two or five to ten there somewhere. Probably about 35 pounds more than when you came into the league. How do you feel different, like, strength wise and just keeping it that way at this point in your career? Uh, I like it. Uh, it's more, uh, it's more efficient as a demon in the corners around the net. Uh, I'm not as light anymore so I can't, you know, buzz around for 30 just be not tired. He says, I don't know. But yeah, I can still move, uh, but I got some,

01I got some weight when I need. So the game in Tampa, you get the puck on the left side and you cut to the middle, you give yourself a great spot to shoot the puck from. Um, you know, when you see guys driving the net like this, how different or how easier is it for you as a defenseman to find the right shooting lane? Yeah. The drive is, is what matters when you, when you're going to entry. You know, we talk a lot about the, the, the middle lane drive and in that case, I think we had three, three drivers. So that opens up everything. You get to have so much time and you have more time to think. So, uh, the middle lane drive is, uh, is key. Big week for the team. All teams trade deadline comes up and, uh, just curious your thoughts as far as, you know, where the team is at, how you feel like you navigate a week like this, which is undoubtedly stressful for all players around the league. Yeah. Uh, you know, as a team, I think we're in a good spot just trying to get

03better every day. Um, just to find ways to, uh, to take our game to the next level and then, uh, it's drama's job to, uh, to trade and, uh, those stuff. But in the, in the locker room, we, I haven't even heard anyone talk about it. But do you have a relationship, like, how would you characterize your relationship now with your general manager now that he's been here a little while? Yeah, it's good. Uh, still feels like, uh, it was a long time ago he got here, but, you know, uh, we've had a lot of chats and, um, you know, he's, uh, he's very professional and, uh, I love him as a GM. Will you play him and pick a ball or tennis? Yeah. Uh, I've heard, I've heard he's good. Okay. You haven't played yet. So, uh, I'm going to try, I'm going to have to pre scout him before I step in on the court. Are you a heart court guy or a clay or what do you like to when you get on the court? Um, put, put me on anything. Anything. I think he's the competitor.

04Yeah, I don't care. I'll slice it on the clay. Hey, it wasn't that long ago that you were the 18-year-old defenseman that everybody was talking about in the NHL. What do you make of Matthew Schaefer with the Islanders? Um, I mean, it's so, so cool, cool to watch. Um, he's doing an unbelievable job. Um, the pressure doesn't face him. Um, but also, um, fitness wise, he, that guy can skate and he can fly. He, uh, he's very, uh, powerful and, um, seems like he can fly out there. So, um, he's, the scary thing is just going to continue to get, to get better, you know, uh, so, um, uh, I'm excited to see where he can go. Everybody's got different path to the NHL. Zach Metza's path to the NHL was completely different than yours, or Matthew Schaefer. And then Beck Malinstein called him smooth operator when he gave him the belt the other night. Um, what, what is Metza like? And

05what have you liked from, uh, from his support in being part of the group? Uh, I see Metza as a leader, honestly. Um, he's, he's a very, uh, composed, confident guy and, um, he, uh, he's very professional. He works really hard. Uh, and then on the ice, uh, it doesn't matter what situation he gets put in. He just seems so calm and, uh, does the right thing, uh, all the time and, uh, last night, you saw some unbelievable skill too. So you got to play with him a little bit more in Tampa, because you guys were kind of switching the pairs too. So you were on the ice with him quite a bit. Yeah, I love playing with him. Um, he plays the right way and, um, he, uh, always makes the, the right decision out there. So it's, it's very, very easy to play with him. We have Tage on the show tomorrow. Anything we should ask him? Uh, I'm sure you guys are going to talk about the gold. Uh, we have these titles. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Sorry. I know. You'll get it back in 2030. No, no, yeah. No, no,

08R.D. Eighth place for me. No, no, no, no. Was it, was it eight? Was it six? I don't know. Who knows? Yeah, exactly. Uh, next, 2030, 2030, Sweden, we're going to get him more. That's, yeah, that's, yeah. Oh, yeah. Exactly. Uh, it's in France, right? Yeah. Yeah. That would be nice. But he, uh, TNT earns this. Um, it's going to be an unbelievable experience tomorrow. Uh, atmosphere tomorrow, I think. So, um, fired up, uh, aside from France, what's your next, uh, travel plan? Like what's a city place? The air, like, is you love travel? Um, where's one place that you would really love to get to in the, in your free time when you, I don't, I actually don't know. Um, are you spontaneous with stuff like this? Uh, yeah, yeah. I would say so. Uh, I, I, I love France. Uh, now I have, uh, a reason to go back. Um, so we probably will go back and, um,

10go back to the hospital and, um, and talk to all the nurses and doctors that helped. Uh, I think, uh, that's, that might be the next plan honestly. Yeah. Yeah. Well, that's good. It's Zach Rensky. I think with Columbus as a map in his house. Oh, so he has a dot and a pin. I've actually seen that. And it's gone. So maybe you guys got to start, uh, you know, something like that with some special locations that you've been to. Yeah. Where do you guys think I should go? Well, Australia, I think I was going to say super cool. So that's a long flight. Yeah. My daughter went to South Africa last year and she absolutely loved it. It was awesome. They went on a safari. She said it was incredible. So maybe that's something to think about. For sure. You know, seeing wild animals right there, like taking a picture of a leopard, like, you know, on the tree and whatever, lying there. Like there was a lion eating and you can hear the bone crunching in every way. Incredible. So yeah, I think I go into a different continent. This, uh, something I always

13used to stay in Europe. It might, might have to explore something. Yeah. That's good. Thank you for the time. Great to see you. Thank you. There is Captain Rasmus Dalin. We've got, uh, obviously a really busy week here Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday for Saber games, including three of them at home. And it's youth hockey day on Saturday when the predators roll in. That is March the 7th. It's presented by Orville's home appliances as the team takes on the Nashville predators. So that is another opportunity for people to make sure we get over 72,000 for the jackpot and continue to benefit those in the community. I love how Rasmus looks like so I they don't make one for eight places. R-D-A-T-R-D-H. Oh my gosh that was unbelievable. What a line. I mean okay it's disappointing but well considering every game from every game except for one from the quarter finals on was a coin flip. Yes it that's how close this tournament is and that's and by the way nobody wants to hear this but I'll say it anyway it obviously wasn't best on best because Russia's not there and you can't

28tell me when you look at all these players and the depth of that lineup and the depth of gold tending and all the rest of it that they don't make a major impact on this tournament. I feel it affected rock group stage more than anything else because you were missing a team to make the the first round like meaningful right because when you can I was going to be in the one and you asking me in one and then it was Sweden Finland and Slovakia ended up winning that so the middle group group B ended up okay but but it it's start to be competitive in the quarters and I think it would have been competitive in the group stage if Russia had been there. Well all the over times all the one goal games truly remarkable in the Sabers aside from you know the Saturday lopsided winning Tampa but like most teams find themselves in these incredibly close games and therefore there are so many clubs with true belief that this can be their year and the trade deadline is fast approaching so what is your Marty's mock of the day. Well I got four more right I got

31today tomorrow Wednesday and Thursday and I think I have I'm going to start by saying this I don't really feel like the Sabers are going to do something big. I think that the health is going to be the biggest edition with with Benson and Norris and and who knows if Timon's and when he comes back and what I so health is the big edition and obviously Alex stuck is your big own rental because they're not going to sign them to a contract before Friday but I think that's the big move but I'm going to look at this week and say okay what if the Sabers were swinging for the Grand Slam right bottom of the ninth you're down by three bases loaded boom you you're going for it right and I'm going to look at Jordan Cairo of the Saint Louis Blues as Saint Louis is going nowhere I think Saint Louis is going to start to unload maybe rework their roster maybe Bennington goes maybe there's other guys Robert Thomas goes maybe Cairo goes but I'm looking at Cairo because I think the middle of the ice for the Sabers is set with Thompson Norris McLeod and you're looking at adding

34on to the wing Cairo is in the year three of an eight year deal that pays him over eight million dollars and he's 27 years old so it's a prime guy he's having a down year but he it's scored 30 or more goals and 37 goals last year or two years ago but he scored 30 or more he's that type of player now I'm only looking at a guy like Jordan Cairo and sin okay well maybe you're looking ahead what if you don't have Alex stuck next year what if he moves on and that fits right in there so you're getting your boost right now and you're continuing on the same pace with that type of player next year and what are you giving quickly so you got to give a first round pick this year that's the first thing you got to give a roster player because I think the Saint Louis Blues are saying okay we're not giving up a Cairo type player and not getting anything back maybe a younger player but as somebody that's on the roster that's playing right now in producing and you're given a high-end

35prospect either somebody that's in Rochester or still you know developing to get there so those are the three main pieces you're giving up to get Jordan Cairo. Well continued Marty's mock of the day throughout this week as we get to the trade deadline which happens on Friday so we'll have a special show on Friday as well and who knows whether many of the deals will be consummated before we hop on the air at noon or whether they will be pushed closer to the 3 p.m. trade deadline. Around the national Carolina remains scorching hot 10-0 and 2 in their last 12. Pittsburgh has just one regulation loss in the last 15 and the Sabers take on the pens on Thursday Buffalo's lost both meetings against the penguins this year Washington is one six of eight despite losing the Montreal Saturday Columbus is seven one and one in the last nine if you're sensing where I'm going with this Philadelphia's got points and five of six the Metro is surging right now like this division is so tight and so hot and they're starting to resemble an awful lot of what we're seeing

41with the Atlantic so do you mention the Islanders? The Islanders of one eight out of ten they've had three straight games with multi goal comebacks and they've won five in a row partly because of the Matthew Schaefer effect that we just talked about with Rasmus Dalini's got four game winners this year is the first time ever we've had a defenseman sorry yeah a defenseman become the first rookie to score 20 goals in a season like there's a lot of really good rookies across the league this year but the defenseman Schaefer is the first one to crest over the 20 goal plateau incredible incredible and they did beat the Florida Panthers and it puts the Florida Panthers in a much harder tough tough decisions so now they got four days right five days for trade deadline what do you do how do you like they still have a good roster if Sasha Barkov yes sir give a brosk you could be moved you know because he's a UFA at the end of the year and who knows what happened but that Florida Panthers still have a good roster I mean they don't have said Jones they don't have you know Sasha Barkov they're missing some big pieces maybe this year's just a one off real quick

46for dazzled and disturbed wanted to hit on Anaheim because you know I love the shootouts the ducks improved to a league best seven and oh in shootouts this year they've won five straight and eight in a row at home the beauty of their shootouts Lucas Carlson who's only scored a couple this year he's two for five Dostol has been amazing he's four no Mason McTavish not a lot of people me included love the move when you come to an almost dead stop like Mason McTavish does but McTavish is five for five this year he's now nine for 13 is in his career which among any shooter that's ever played in a 13 attempts he's the best in league history at 69.2% so these players have played such a key role in Anaheim finding their way and knocking right on Vegas's door now for top spot in the Pacific as the Golden Knights are here tomorrow you know the Anaheim's the only team in the Pacific that has a actual winning record when you combine loss and overtime loss they're

48the only team that are on plus side which is crazy yeah I'll tell you this my dazzling and if you did not see it go and find it anywhere online the cold open for Saturday night live oh yeah so rose enough those that have watching the rivalry you know I'm talking about was hosting which was incredible in itself but what a timing to have him host and then combine Quinn and Jack Hughes and Megan Keller and Hillary night as part of the cold open it was amazing way to put them together to have a little laugh by the fact that Hillary night says it was going to be just us girls but we decided to invite the boys it was great but the whole cold open was fantastic so that was my dazzle for the week and you could celebrate women in sports with us March 8th here as Tampa is in we honor female athletes administrators fans during our match up with the sabers and lightning get your tickets now at sabers dot com slash tickets so much to come in just a little bit of time left here on sabers live

07this really exciting campaign December 9th is when it all turned and buffalo continues to be the best team in the NHL since then tomorrow night taged Thompson gets honored in front of the home fans for his gold medal winning performance you can hear what tages thinking about that at sabers.com the day on social as he's addressing the media this afternoon in advance of that game and of course tageel join us on the show here on sabers live tomorrow so we'll look forward to to that there's afternoon action in the NHL today is Detroit important to the eastern conference race at Nashville it's a 2 p.m. start part of a six game slate in the NHL we're at the weird time of the year because usually at this time of year we hear about roster management this guy is being held off for roster management and you know potential trades Mike Sullivan at a quote this morning basically saying I have not been told to keep Vincent Trochec out of the lineup he's going the other way he's saying he's playing tonight because I've not been told to keep him out

09of the lineup in case there was some roster management so we've gone completely crazy with that well it was a crazy sports weekend the sabers win twice which was electric the bandits here in this building on Friday night at Keybank Center in the rematch of last year's championship against Saskatchewan a team that came into the weekend at 10 and 1 while the bandits came in at 4 and 6 and on the outside looking in Buffalo secured an incredible win in overtime thanks to Josh Burns dagger 11 10 was the final score Matt Vince was beyond sensational in a long overtime period to give them the chance to then go to Toronto on Saturday win against the rock 14 to 9 get back to 6 and 6 on the season and be right in the thick of it in the NLL standings which are league wide standings there's no you know there's no divisions it's it's incredible to see the races that are unfolding and will now for the bandits who've got six games to go they're back here

13on March the 13th that's their next game Colorado has been excellent this year so they're going to provide a huge opponent just so exciting to see Dane and Josh have huge nights on Saturday to really help you know get the group where they expect to be and higher and they had a goal taken away like an overtime they had to go waved off for a toenail on the line tougher like that replays showed barely touching the line indeed and birthdays on this day funny that Rasmus downline didn't mention Alex Nielander for 2030 and the Swedish Olympic team but it is Alex's birthday and Jacob Josephson as well as former former Swedes are concerned yes sorry not former sweet former Sabers yes yes you know birthdays are all also good also it was announced late last week that Donald Odette will be inducted in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey Hall of Fame so for and I saw a picture of a young Donald Odette when he was playing in Laval in junior so he is going to be inducted so

14that's pretty cool for a former Saber tough weekend for the Amherst they've now lost six in a row they've got Laval on the road coming up on Friday and Saturday so they need to hopefully like they lost six in one night when they lost nine to three yeah that was on Friday and ultimately they couldn't get the win in Syracuse yesterday either but certainly optimism rains here inside of Keybank for the Sabers now that they're back home tomorrow against Vegas again takes Thompson joins us on the show then enjoy the rest of the day folks have you or a family member been diagnosed with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer that can be removed by surgery consider talking to an oncologist about your treatment options why because knowing your options before you have surgery can help your care team develop a treatment plan that's right for you learn about a potential treatment plan before and after surgery and ask before surgery dot com that's ask before surgery dot com and talk to an oncologist before your surgery did you know that you can buy
