Ray Herbert, out on the mound for the White Socks is one seven and lost eight this year. I guess the Yankees used one one and lost one. His lifetime mark against New York five wins 13 defeats and his lifetime mark in the big league 52 wins and 64 defeats. Herbert was acquired from the Kansas City A's in a trade when Herbert and Andy Carey came over from Kansas City for out-pilarcyc, along with out-pilarcyc and Don Larson, four men from the A's in exchange. And this is his first appearance against the Yankees since coming to the White Socks from Kansas City. Bobby Richardson will be leading off of the Yankees. And Bobby has had two hits in each of the first two games played here. He's raised his average to 252, has seven doubles, four triples, two homers and 27 runs batted in. Frank Rissetti moves down the third base coaching box and over at first is Wally Moses. The White Socks whip the ball around the infield. Richardson steps into the batter's box. 9:25Bobby has a sixth game hitting street going and here's the first pitch of the ball game. It's a little bit high ball one. Herbert ready again. His next pitch, curve ball popped in the air the left side, Andy Carey and then Louis Aparicio. Nobody can see it. And Aparicio finally makes the catch and that ball almost hit him on the head. Carey lost it. Aparicio lost it. Nelly Fox tried to get there from second base. Couldn't get there in time. And Aparicio finally had a catch the ball in self-defense or would have hit him right on top of the head. You remember last night's ball game, the fly balls and the first three innings were lost by the outfielder. But the sun here at committee park is rough in the first few innings. His lifetime mark against Chicago won win four defeats and his lifetime mark in a big league 37 wins 47 defeats. This is Cherry's 15th appearance of the year and his 14th as a starter. Last appearance for Ralph was against Boston at the stadium on July 9th, the second game for double header. About two runs. None of them earned an inning and a third.

23:37Stretch and the pitch to Boyer filed back in the up a deck strike one. We were just talking about anybody that it would hit a home run and hit that center field bleachers or the scoreboard would have got $10,000. Well, I'd say if that ball would have been to dead center, that might have gone against the scoreboard, at least in the center field bleachers. Again, Herbert said, best ball popped out in a short left center field. And that ball's going to drop in there for a base hit, going the third as Blanchard. Holding at first with a Texas lead single is clearest Boyer. So it's two out here in the top of the second. The Yankees have put together a homer in two singles. Procedede talking to Boyer. 8-8-10th inning. Hacker to the wind up. They pitch to Bobby. Swung on and popped up. There goes Foxy back out. Still going. And Apparizio makes the catch.

2:46:17And Boyer has to hold it third. So they're two away. Bobby Richardson. The infield in, popped it up. Not into very short. Center to the right of second base. Apparizio race back and caught it. Once again for one of a fly ball as in the ninth inning when Howard struck out. And it's two out now in Quebec up. Fly to center and left center. Ball of the catcher. Fly to center and sacrifice. He was traded by Kansas City to Chicago. In June. So Big Don comes in to work to Larson. I mean to Maris. As he has had quite a day. After popping his short it is 35th Homer. Then he tripled the right center. And double to center. Driven in two runs.

2:49:21Tony Kubeck coming up for this first set of the game. The drive in the lead run. Yankee surely will have to contend with Royce Siebers. And the last of the 10th most likely. Roger Maris up. The game they were apparently was gone, and they scored two in the ninth, and one on the tenth still in it. The winning pitcher, Luis Sororio. His fourth wins against three losses, the losing pitcher Warren Hacker, two and two. And thus the Yankees remain in first place by three percentage points over Detroit. They won five extra inning games and lost two against Chicago now. They're five and three on the season. And for those of you who tuned in late, the Yankees with more, rather with Ray Herbert and Ralph Terry, the starting pitchers, took a lead on a home run by Howard in the second inning, which was matched by Homer by Loller in the last of the second. The Yankees went ahead two to one in the third, and a Homer by Roger Maris is thirty-fifth of the season that put him twenty games ahead of Ruth's record.

2:59:50And then the last of the third, the White Sox tied it up on a Homer by Herbert. Then came the fourth inning when Jim Coates came on to pitch. After having relieved Terry in the third, Manosa Homer, Loller walked, Terry tripled, two runs were in Martin Walk. Then came a fourth out at second, and the third run in the inning walked as the Yankees scored rather. The Yankees missed a double play at first by hair. Fox walked and landed at a three run at Homer and became eight to two Chicago. Then in the sixth inning, the Yankees knocked out Ray Herbert. Maris tripled Manol Walk, Maris sacrificed fly, got Maris home, powered singles, and Blanchard's double got both Manol and Howard home. And then a base hit by Lopez pinchitting got Blanchard home, and that made it eight to six.

3:00:50Meantime, Lowne had relieved Herbert and Bowman had relieved Lowne in the ninth. When Bob served, greeted Lowne with a pinch at Homer on his first pitch, as was his eleventh major league, a pinch at Homer, putting him in a tie for a second place for all time pinch at Homer's. And then after Lowne Walk Richardson, Bowman came in, sacrificed Richardson and Maris, who had a double tripling at Homer, doubled Richardson home. And that tied the score. They walked Manol on purpose, Barra unintentionally. Ott went, Bowman Hacker came in, struck out Howard, and then on a spectacular catch by Al Smith, Johnny Blanchard was robbed of at least a double or a triple, just missed the grand slammer by a foot. And then on the tenth inning, the Yankees wrapped it up, on a double by Boyer, sacrificed by Arroyo, a two-out single by Kubak,

3:01:53and Louis, who worked the ninth and tenth and retired, six out of the seventh man, pitching carefully to the receivers and walked him, got the win. When Bob served, greeted Lowne with a pinch hit Homer on his first pitch. As was his 11th major league, a pinch hit Homer,

3:21:43putting him in a tie for a second place for all-time pinch hit homers. And then after Lowne, Walk Richardson, Bowman came in, Kubbeck sacrificed Richardson and Maris, and a double triple in Homer, double Richardson home. And that tied the score. They walked Mano on purpose, and Farah unintentionally, Us went, Bowman Hacker came in, struck out Howard, and then on a spectacular catch, by Al Smith, Johnny Blanchard was robbed, of at least a double or a triple, just missed the grand slammer by a foot. And then in the tenth inning, the Yankees wrapped it up, on a double by Bowyer, sacrificed by Arroyo, a two-out single by Kubbeck, and Louis, who worked the ninth, and tenth, and retired, six out of the seven, man pitching carefully, receivers and walking, got the win.
