£18M Playground Fund for Greater Manchester

0:00On March 21, Greater Manchester is getting a big boost from a national 18 million pound fund aimed at building or upgrading playgrounds in the Mersta, most deprived areas. All Tim Burles there, Southford, Tameside, Bolton, Oldham, Trafford, Rochdale, Manchester, Stockport, Wiggen and Berry made the cut among 66 spots across the country. This funding comes straight from the government's budget, announced by Chance the Rachel Rees back in November. Officials pick these places based on high-child poverty rates and limited access to play spaces, with cash flowing directly to local councils, without any bidding hassles. Community Secretary Steve Reed highlighted how this fits into a broader push to empower locals after years of neglect. He stressed giving people the tools and money to take charge of their neighborhoods and bring back a sense of pride. On top of the playground money, there's a massive 301 million pound investment lined up to revitalize struggling high streets under the Pride and Place plan.
