An 18-year-old pitcher named Miguel Seam Jr. made waves in a prospect showcase game. During the spring breakout match-up between the Nationals and Cardinals, he unleashed a 100.8 mile per hour fastball. It was so explosive that it knocked the helmet right off number 5 overall prospect J.J. Weatherhold on a swing and miss. This happened in the second inning when Seam, the Nationals number 16 prospect, faced off against Weatherhold, the Cardinals' top guy. Seam had fallen behind three balls and no strikes early due to a pitch-timer issue and a couple of wild, triple-digit heaters. Fans and scouts were buzzing about the raw power on display. Seamay, a recent fourth-round pick out of high school in Brooklyn, showed why he's one of Washington's rising stars. Weatherhold, a highly touted hitter, couldn't catch up to the velocity. Seam battled back in the ad bat with cutters to even the count.
