In episode 177, Jon Jordan talks to MetaKing Studios' CEO David Johansson about the launch of fully onchain companion game Blocklords Dynasty, as well as the long term plans for PC strategy game Blocklords, including the launch of the battle mode, NFT permadeath and family lineage.
The thinking behind fully onchain game Blocklords Dynasty. "Onchain transactions are how people measure traction in this space." Dynasty came from adding utility to our hero NFTs while being fully onchain. With Base Paymaster, the user didn't have to pay gas for their first five transactions. Balancing the ability to scale the game to 130,000 DAUWs while limiting bot activity. The referral system really drove viral growth, plus partnerships with Mocaverse etc. Bots are a problem but the industry values user numbers. The PC game's daily activity has been around 30,000 since March 2024. It's hard to give away tokens as rewards when you know people are going to sell them. Launch of the LRDS token ... "We're quite happy, especially being on Coinbase". Why Blocklords is building its own Lordchain, not using an off-the-shelf solution. In-game utility of a token won't impact price until you have 5, 10, 15 million players. Why does Blocklords have permadeath for its NFT heroes? The counter balance to permadeath is building out your family's lineage. The importance of resource trading in the game. The game's difficulty level is currently extremely hard but we will ease it over time. The next key element to be released later this year will be an alpha of the battle mode.
