清張は「好奇心の根源とは？」との問いに、「疑いだね。体制や学問を鵜呑みにしない。上から見ないで底辺から見上げる」とビデオの中で語っている。体制、学問、権威、通説、大家、常識、こういうものに敢然と挑戦するこの作家の神髄を表す言葉だ。幅の広さと奥の深さと圧倒的な仕事量で時代に屹立した大小説家の姿勢に感心した。
