乃木 希典（のぎ まれすけ、嘉永2年11月11日（1849年12月25日） – 大正元年(1912年）9月13日）は、日本の武士（長府藩士）、軍人、教育者。
冒頭に掲げた歌は乃木希典の辞世の歌である。この殉死に対しては内外から賞賛と批判があった。乃木希典は明治を創った最後の武弁であった。明治天皇と乃木の死によって明治という偉大な時代が終わったのだ。
