台南西門路，是一條貫穿市區的主要幹道，和著名的海安路平行，台南美術館和歷史悠久的林百貨等觀光景點都在附近，沿路上還有許多知名小吃和攤商聚集，不論平日或假日總是人聲鼎沸，而同樣位於西門路上的新光三越，不僅有商場和電影院，也是在地人逛街娛樂的好去處，但也有許多體質較敏感的人，一來到這裡就會感到莫名頭痛或是不舒服，那是因為過去有很長的一段時間，這裡曾經是南台灣最大的刑場
