Every day, excessive delays and denials from big insurers keep patients from accessing
the care they need.
And when care is urgent, these delays can be disastrous.
These practices cost billions in wasteful spending, driving up costs for American families.
But while big insurers put up barriers, America's hospitals and health systems are in your corner,
navigating endless reviews and appeals to get you the care you need when you need it
most.
It's time to curb these harmful practices and put the focus back on patients.
Brought to you by the Coalition to Strength in America's Healthcare.
And we are back up here on the Michigan Insider on the Big 1050 WTKAA.
Aligned at the Big1050.com, Sam Webb, Mr. Irawine, Trabbo, and any other side.
And joining us in our earlier today is our good friend, Teddy's dad, John, you bacon,
you can not go a week without talking to Bakes, Bakes, how are you?
I'm doing shock and you well and I'm fresh from a visit to Webville as I call it.
Sam Webb, Tom, Flint, he is a guide among mortals.
Tell you, those are my people, those are my people up there.
So I take, I know they always, they love you, Bakes, and always have a good time when you come out.
I know you had a great crowd.
We had another sellout and they bought all, more importantly, Sam, they bought all the books.
How's that?
But every other conversation was about Sam Webb.
So how do you know Sam Webb?
Quite well, 14 years, a lot of stuff.
I think I'll need to get your autograph next time to prove it, but anyway.
Yeah, and so listen, listen, you, you talk about a fervent support, uh, support system
of the University of Michigan, you have them club of Flint, uh, they are unbelievable.
I've never gone up there and I had a Pact House, never.
Exactly right.
And that's more about Michigan, it is about me.
So let me tell you that.
Well, you're very kind, but it is about you, too, of course, because, uh, you're, you're, you are without question.
Their favorite son, uh, you are the star attraction.
Uh, I'm the second billing, uh, also puppet show kind of thing, you know, that's some final tab.
Look it up, kids, but anyway, uh, but yes, but they, uh, as I said, last night, those guys are undefeated.
I've done seven or eight stops up there, almost every book tour.
And it's always a sell out crowd.
They always move all the books and they did a very easy ask man.
They love it and man, they are.
I think because Flint is divided between Michigan State and Michigan, they seem particularly, uh, fervent itself.
Well, because they know like I know that Michigan State, uh, Flint being a Michigan state town, so to speak, is only a recent phenomenon.
It's only in the last 30 years that has been, uh, you know, split as they say, uh, where you, you had the town be identified, because before that, look, it was all Michigan, you have been Flint, Bakes, you have been Flint.
Well, Michigan State fun on they have a satellite, uh, deal up there now, uh, but hey, you know what town is divided here with this final four, or even with this sweet 16, uh, as Michigan.
Set to take the court tonight and Michigan State is as well, uh, the big 10, John, you bake it. Wow. I mean, the big 10 goes out wins the football national championship already have a couple teams advanced to the elite eight, uh, it looks like you're going to have, I think of, uh, well, at least one more, get there as well.
It's incredible. And, uh, how many left in the SEC like one? It's crazy. Uh, I mean, ACC's getting beat up, SEC's getting beat up. And obviously the big 10 is looking glorious and a Scot Bell likes to claim, by the way, you want a fun and funny follow, Scot Bell is your guy.
Uh, he takes no prisoners in this one. That's for sure. But, uh, yes, uh, winning the big 10 this big 10 by four games untouched. Uh, and this big 10 seems to be one of the strongest of all time, at least so far. Um, then then that speaks for itself. So the big 10 man, uh, riding high this year and a couple straight national titles, uh, and then you get all this. So, uh, quite a run for the big 10 at least man, Iowa. What's up with that?
Yeah, I was going to talk to you about that. But I said, you know, you got a couple coaches that have exercised some demons are exercising some demons and Brad Underwood a little noise. He had had, you know, before he got to Illinois hadn't been past the first weekend, been the one elite eight in his career. Now a second. So, uh, might have the monkey off his back. And then Matt painter, you know, his teams have consistently been known to underachieve in the postseason. And, uh, as great a coach as I think he isn't as he's regarded as.
He, uh, isn't gotten a team back to the elite eight. So I think that'll do some things for him, but it's Iowa Bakes. I mean, you got to go back to the eighties. Dr. Tom Davis, Roy Marble, uh, BJ.
You got to go back to that. You know, so this is, this is a really, really big and significant deal for the big 10 as it relates to Iowa, especially.
Exactly. And, uh, I know Matt painter some. I don't know Iowa at all. Anybody there. Um, Matt painter man is one of the genuinely good guys and complain.
Fair that to his colleague at UCLA. Uh, you really want to see Matt painter do well. And, uh, like you said, I mean, it's Purdue. Man, it's in the water. They're going back to Gene Katie.
They're great. They're ready to see them. They blow up in the in the tournament. So the stunning stat. I think they're either one or two.
The big 10 entitles. And they're like what five six big 10 teams that have won national titles and they ain't one of them. And their final four numbers are like three.
And like that. So, uh, so from that painter, uh, good for him for Iowa man, incredible, which I mean, hey, to give Petiti, it is ever no credit. I'm not going to give him any credit. He deserves no credit for any of this.
But man, if you're, if you're Petiti, the commissioner of course of the big 10 front in the big 10, uh, that you can say, man, the league has never been stronger. And in some ways, it's true.
Yeah, man. It's, uh, you know, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Nebraska and Fred, Fred, Fred Hoiber. Uh, they were able to win a couple of, win a couple of games, get to the sweet 16 after never having won anything.
And the postseason. So, uh, that's noteworthy. Even though they were the favorite team and they lost last night. And at one point, half four players on the court.
Uh, dude. Don't forget. Hoiber is the coach of the year. Okay. I mean, you know, Joe, two weeks ago, there's no way Dustin may is going to get it because he is the coach of the year. So he can't get it.
Those are the rules. You got to give it to a guy who's team sucked and now they suck less. That's formula for coach of the year almost anywhere. Uh, dude, four guys. That's a hockey thing. All right.
Yeah, you know, you want to show it in the basketball. That is not what you're doing basketball. And no matter how many fouls you get, you get five guys every single time. So that is such an egregious mistake.
I forgot who could have done a very good job. I'm not going to paint his whole season obviously with that, but my God. What a way to go out.
You're sure you're a take on his face. He, he owned it. Uh, Hoiberg did. He took it. He took full responsibility. He did. But to me, the, the kid, because I, I, that just never like of all the things, like you, you see guys, not, they have too many guys on the field in basketball or too few, like that's something that you always got to look for.
I'm not going to ask about this literally never happens. And not only that. So you looking at the kid, not only that you're not allowed to play with four players on the court that the officials let that they missed that.
I think it's is even me. So I look at the kid and I look at the officials more than I look at Brad at Fred Hoiberg in this instance.
And think about it too. Look, I'm coaching my kids 10 year old, recommended that the whole story to itself. By the way, gentlemen, the bucket is our bucket is that way. Okay.
Just a reminder, our buckets that way.
Don't worry about these guys. You'll get well into middle school and maybe even to high school and you'll still have to tell everybody where to line up on the free throw line.
Well, right now, man, the rest of it, I can add our fantastic. These are rose over caught qualified guys, my buddy Steve Vincent.
The guys at coach high school basketball. And so they actually coach the kids, they've been great with them. But, you know, more than once this season, our third or fourth.
I got to point out, no, our bucket's that one. Kids running the wrong way. So even at that, those guys, the 10 year old, check in at the table for the subs. Now, that's how they do it.
And, you know, that's obviously why the college does it. How does the scorekeeper not track the fact that you got four guys on your sheet?
So it's a fair question. Yeah, it's on Hoiberg. Be on it to his credit. Don't make it worse. Don't turn a one day story into a two day story. Don't make it worse by passing the bucket.
And he didn't. And if he had, you and I be all over that. It's a crystal situation. But anyway.
But he didn't do that. But yeah, the rest, but also the guy at the table. He's got kind of one job. And that's it. So I don't know how he blew it.
Yeah, see, John, I contested. I put it more on the guy at the table because we know that rest on the floor. They can't count to three for three second violation. How the heck are they going to count the five?
So they can't count of five steps. We know that.
So yeah, I mean, the guy at the table, he's the guy I'm looking at.
Yeah, so so Bakes, one of the interesting storylines here is when you really need care, you need 24 seven access to a care team, not a maze of paperwork from a third party.
Today, America's hospitals and health systems show up for you, navigating healthcare can feel overwhelming. But you can count on real doctors, real nurses, real people, providing quality around the clock care when you need it most.
They're in your corner in communities across America, your neighbors, your lifelines, right beside you holding your hand and helping find answers. That's what putting patients first actually means.

It feels like Nerf Carolina is lurking in the background watching all these coaches say, hey, who do we want from this group, right?
As if they can do that, as if they can just pick and choose whoever they want. This is the perspective, I think, that the Nerf Carolina fan base comes into this situation, the firing or Hubert Davis and the look for replacement, the athletic, the A.D.s announcement that they are going to at least look outside the family.
And then they put together or eight lists are put together, media lists, you know, don't necessarily know if it coincides with Nerf Carolina's list, but on those list, they throw Dusty May.
Now, I'm curious your thoughts on that, you know, is this the type of group or fan base alumni base that I think it is that they just throw a name on there because they, because we're North Carolina and we can pick and choose.
Or is this more of a wish list that people are ascribing to them having Dusty May on that list?
I think it's probably both, both, it's the hubris of it all. I mean, like at one point, Michigan had 20 Dungeons in their list, football coaches. Now, God bless 20 Dungeons, but he's probably not going to come into Michigan. So, Michigan's been guilty of it too.
The hubris of, we're Michigan, we're North Carolina, we get, we get, you know, any meeting, we get a pick, anyone we want. That's not how it works. That's one thing.
Second of all, on the Michigan side, I mean, word manual, a lot of guy down on what's three different times by now.
I don't know how much more you got to do. At some point, Dusty May has got to come out and say, I'm not going anywhere here yet.
Or else the talks were always continue. And as you know, we talked about this with Jim Marbide years ago. Of course, that ended up being the case that he was, obviously, had an eye open and he did leave.
So, if you want to squash it, you don't say they qualified on these situations, always listen to what they don't say.
Not just, hey, I'm really happy here. I'm focused on this and there's not no, which the ender is, I'm not going anywhere, period.
I'm not talking anyone, period. My agent is not talking anyone, period. No one's talking anybody and I'm not going anywhere.
That makes it pretty unequivocal. It took about 12 seconds. So that's how you handle that one.
And if I'm Dusty May with all this stuff going on, I'd get that out there.
So I was going to say, I feel like, okay, and I see Dusty to be clear is fueling none of this.
Okay. This is not Dusty May.
Completely right.
Right.
Any attention, say, look at me, I want, I mean, he already turned down Indiana, his, he already chose Michigan over Louisville.
Right. So he's not out saying, hey, I'm looking for him to get on the next thing, smoking.
And yet, if you're Michigan, Bakes, and I've been making this, this point for a month, you anticipate the threat.
I was an anticipating North Carolina, but I was anticipating the NBA. And you have a coach who has shown that what he did at Florida Atlantic was no flu.
He has shown that he has a formula for being successful and sustaining that success in this era of college basketball.
You have a coach who is still, young, he's not 50 yet. This guy could literally be your J right.
You go and you say, you just did an extension last year. I know you say, how many times can you do it?
You do it another time.
You tear it up again.
One more.
You got, you got to do it.
You got, when you have a guy that's a known commodity at this level.
Do you keep in that sport?
Because I think you were wanting to tell me, hey, Michigan can't keep Eric Bakker.
You, you Bakes, you've screwed me.
But you can't tell me you can't do what it takes to keep Dusty May.
That's true.
I mean, look, he was different. The course is winter.
So in baseball, you're screwed in basketball. Michigan is showing him in a national title in basketball.
And it's come close many times in a B line and fish and so on.
So no question, Michigan can be and has been at times a basketball power.
Michigan baseball, that's a tough thing.
And you know, backage, maybe they could have kept him, but it's not going to be easy when clubs and plays the first 30 games at home.
And Michigan plays the first 30 games in Florida.
So that's an institutional problem.
That's back of a second, though, to make a comparison.
So one, but kind of world are we in when Nebraska basketball is pretty, I'm good.
And Indiana football is pretty, I'm good.
And Indiana basketball sucks in Nebraska football sucks.
What has happened?
So that is the world's upside down.
In this case, if Dusty May holds it off this year and I don't know if Michigan's got dominant team.
I certainly wouldn't pick them first of the field, but right now I pick them.
I mean, Florida's gone.
I pick them as high as anybody else. Duke looks shaky at times.
And Arizona's got some injuries and so on.
I pick them out as well as anybody right now.
If they pull us off, you got to put that on a short list with Kurt Signetti in terms of the greatest coaching jobs of all time.
What did you want to finish with two years ago?
I mean, eight wins, something that was something incredibly low, obviously.
And two years later, you're a national champ.
That's almost exactly what Signetti did.
Now, Grant, he did it at Indiana, which is the losing this football program in the country in history for decades.
So, okay, I mean, quite a bit, man, awfully close, but man, get the lock down and have Dusty May put out the fire.
And if I'm Dusty May, I want to do that anyway just because it's, you got sweet 16, you got two weekends left.
The last thing I want is answer any damn questions about this.
And the more questions you get about this, the more you risk sooner or later, something something slightly wrong or whatever else and you screw it up.
And I was talking to Bill Bryan at Penn State.
And of course, NFL jobs always came up and he always answered it poorly.
He'd say, you know, well, you're here Penn State, you love it, yet I love it.
What about the NFL? Well, it's the highest level of football and this and that.
And then, no, what you say is I'm not going anywhere until you are.
Because why, why make that last year difficult?
We say, I'm here until I'm not. You can't say that, but just say you're 100% here until the day you're not and then say this happened.
That's kind of what Beeline did with the Cavaliers and I thought that was not unfair.
That was not a bad way to handle it.
So, again, it's not a crisis point for Michigan by any means.
It's not a huge distraction for Dusty May by any means.
And you make the very fair point that he'd not been cute with this.
He's not played games with this. None of that.
They don't turn down his alma mater for crying out loud.
So, pretty much on a quivocally.
But nonetheless, with 16, you know, sweet 16, two against left.
I'm in his shoes. I tried to put up the fire once and for all to be done with it.
Yeah. I hear you.
And hopefully this lines up being something that they that they handle as swiftly as briskly as they did the when Indiana, which was a real nut out.
You know, there is smoke.
You know, that's his alma mater to chase like you get it.
And there was quick decisive. Let's get this done.
And when they asked Ward about it, I think it was John Rossstein asked Ward about.
He said, Hey, we love Dusty.
And I love what he's doing here and what he's building. We want to.
I'm glad to work with him on continuing that.
Is something along those lines, which made it sound like to me, Bakes, that there.
Hey, they're working on this. That's what that's how I took it anyway.
That's I think a fair interpretation and chance starts to.
I don't know how many contracts Dusty's head now and not quite two years.
I hear you. I hear you. I hear you. I hear you, Bakes.
Hey, but if you're Ward, you got to do it. You're you're dead right.
If you're Ward, you got to do it. This is the game we're playing.
And and and who has done a better than Dusty may.
What made it to me. We've not talked about this yet.
Is not only okay. The team is winning and the team was in the drags just two years ago, a real low point.
Of the program perhaps two years ago. And here they are.
But man, he's got guys who aren't. I've not heard one little controversy out of this team.
Now one guy complaining about his minutes. Now one guy complaining about his.
His points until in his shots. And what? No, why not?
This team seems to be as unified as a fat five was all those years ago.
It's one of some years ago. I'm one of my saying 30 some years ago, holy macro.
He has built a real team and hear about guys.
Like a day who want to come back next year because they're having too much fun.
I mean, what he's created is just incredible.
And I don't I didn't think it could be done in the NAL era and he's done it.
So yeah, as they say, pay the man his money.
Yeah, pay that man his money for sure.
You make it and then you stave off them even thinking that they could make it come and get your coach.
That's what you want the impressions to be from from any college team.
And then the NBA, they would know that they have to, you know, you got to literally set a record salary wise to come.
Pro coaches never coach the NBA.
That's a, I mean, ask Patino. That's a risk.
It is, it is.
Hey, base, I got to ask you though, just, you know, you obviously have connection through to North Carolina through your mom, who's an alum.
Of course, as we've heard you talk about before.
I mean, this is a huge undertaking, a very significant time for that program.
Do you think they go outside the family?
Uh, and what about us? I've been mentioned in Fred Hoyberg. Now you put four guys on the court last night.
I don't know what that did for.
Hi, I'm Adam Devine, chief fundraiser for Children's Miracle Network.
No, no, no, no, no, I said more fun.

Well, you know what? I mean, that might actually increase your chances of your Chapel Hill.
Look, they've tried repeatedly to go within the family and it hasn't worked.
Dirty, of course, was a famous flame out.
Hubert was a famous Hubert.
The famous flame out, not flame out too strong, perhaps.
But it didn't work the way they expected.
And you can be too beholden to that.
I'm just going to struggle with this back and forth in some ways in football, of course.
It often does work.
And what it does when it does work is clearly the ideal situation.
But also in this day and age, man.
And NFL transfer portal being North Carolina by itself no longer means what it means.
Carolina blue is gorgeous.
And green apparently is more of more appealing.
The players don't necessarily respond to Michael Jordan's jersey hanging up there and Dean Smith and whatnot.
It's more transactional.
So the emotional ties of North Carolina itself might not be as strong as it used to be.
And I mean, Dusty May.
I love this quote.
He said, we got the academic standards of Stanford.
And we got the rallying cry of the SEC who's got both.
And there there's your sales pitch quite good for a non-Mission man, quote unquote.
He's clearly done quite well as has, of course, B line.
Bo Shembeckler and Fred's Christ or others.
So I think if I'm in North Carolina shoe, I don't see an obvious North Carolina man to fill in at this point.
And again, you think that coaching for Dean Smith is going to make it automatically you get this coaching's hard.
And they always forget something.
So if I'm in there shoes, I'm more inclined to go outside.
And you said, Hoi Bird, almost an ideal selection because you've already done big 10.
You've already done division one.
You've shown you can turn things around what you basically have right now in Chapel Hill.
I would say that's not a bad way to go.
There's out there, of course.
And Michigan fans better hope that Dusty may not want them.
I don't think he is in any way she performed.
But yeah, I would go outside.
Because I know you got a scoop.
So on your way out, just, you know, your thoughts on whether we will see a Michigan men's team in the final four.
A Michigan women's team in the final four, who if they beat Louisville, they got to play Texas in Texas.
And Michigan hockey team, do they advance?
What say you before you go?
Michigan men's basketball.
Look, if they win tonight, of course, they will likely have an album.
That's not a pushovers you've discussed.
Iowa State.
Son, they'll be that much harder.
That's damn near toss up game.
But man, I'm not going to bet against Dusty May.
So I think they go final four.
Michigan hockey.
They're playing the best hockey at the right time.
Ivankovic is their goalie, of course.
He's back. He's healthy and he's sharp again.
I'm not sure who's going to bet against them.
Michigan State escaped last night, two to one.
Because the team they're supposed to dominate.
You never know it's one game elimination.
hockey is especially scary.
I think the wild.
So I'm going to go yes on them also.
Maybe not on the women.
I mean, they're see the third and so on.
But you know what?
That might be the most exciting of the three.
Because as EA himself said, I caught that last week, I think.
Four sophomores are your four leading scores.
And these women are not going to go to the WNBA next year.
So you're going to have a hell of a team next year.
So almost whatever they do this year is gravy,
compared to what they are capable of doing.
But your best team is not always the one that wins it.
This team has got a real shot and they're exciting.
And they're too young to get scared.
I think I like that too.
And I mean KBA, you get around the air here all the time.
She is a phenomenal coach.
So I think right now, I think it'd probably be favored.
The Michigan men's basketball, Michigan hockey.
Women won't be favored.
And you got to play at, as you said, at Austin.
They're going to pack the place.
UT, UConn, Tennessee.
A handful of women's basketball programs will sell out every night.
And those guys do.
So it's much harder railroad than NCAA.
I would not bet on them.
But man, if they get there, that might be the most exciting of the three.
So heads up.
Yeah.
Bakes, where are you?
Where can people find you?
I'm in Oakland University.
About a talk to 800 people here about the fits.
I still get some Sam Webb questions.
I'm sure of it.
But nonetheless, then after that, we got in a week.
And what are the April 4th?
We got Manhattan Beach, San Diego, Portland, Seattle,
and Island near Seattle.
So check that out.
Fill that place.
We got sell it to most places.
If you're out there, let me know.
Love to see it.
And Sam, wherever I go.
How is Teddy's dad ever damned it there?
Love it, Bakes.
Love it.
Hey, man, have fun.
Let's talk to you again next week.
You got to thank, Sam.
All right.
That was John.
You bacon.
Bit early today.
We want to make sure we got him in on this.
This sweet 16.
It's not quite the same.
It's the sweet 16.
It's not quite the e but the morning of Michigan's sweet 16.
The parents want to get him in the kind of chat it up.
Like we always do.
But right now we need to get to a break back on the other side here on the Michigan insider on the big 1050 WTK online the big 1050 dot com.
